are you ready yet?

Years ago by the time the end of October rolled around I had all my Christmas shopping done and wrapped. First week of December is when we'd put our Christmas tree up and decorate it. Thus leaving lots of time to enjoy the holiday's without last minute stressing and rushing.

So....where are you in the process of getting ready for the 'big event'?

I haven't either. Can't decide if I'm going to this year or not. But because my youngest granddaughter will be here at Christmas, I'm trying to find some motivation to get *something* done. She really enjoyed the Thanksgiving decorations I had put out.

I can understand that Linda....

But I'm sure your granddaughter would love it!

Lets get some motivation here... for everyone.... (hey I'm procrastinating here too!)

I'll even post a pic when Mike gets done with our house (no telling when though, he's working in the yard now, getting every single leaf off the lawn!!!) hows that? he is always so proud when he puts on all those lights
(Me? I just look at that electric box go swirling round 1000 mph... thinking about the electric bill LOL)

LOL @ the electric meter.

Is Mike like Tim Allen in that Home Improvement show? Always made me laugh when he was putting up so many Christmas decorations that his fuse box was always blowing out. That and his yearly competition with this neighbor across the street. They were always trying to outdo one another for the most lights on their homes.

Will the girls be home for Christmas this year?

LOL, actually Linda, yep Mike *trys* to be a Tim Allen

He's still doing 'projects' inside, in fact was up till 11pm last night doing one...

Yeah the girls and their respective boyfriends will be here. And they want everything like it was when they were little. In this area, they'll never grow up (and they both say they will never have kids either, but they are early 20's and this is a good thing right now anyway )

Mike does the competition thing too, all in fun though.... he's already bought hundreds and hundreds of new lights!!!! ack!

I lucked out and found a loft for about 30% under going prices so I just finished moving Wednesday. I had already done most of my Christmas shopping - now I just have to find those boxes. I'm still trying to find my tools as well. My main goal right now is to find those so that I can at least get my bed put back together by Christmas

fenix - Almost done with your shopping.....picture me envious.

A loft....sounds exciting. Share how you plan to set it up. I have seen them in magazines, how people combine work and living spaces. Is that what you plan to do?

And - I'm also envious of your energy level it must have taken to move. LOL on the tools and your bed. Hope you find them soon. Nothing like sleeping in ones own bed.

Linda - I did most of my shopping over the past couple months on ebay - great way to kill time on hights where insomnia gets the better of me. As for having most of it done... you must remember that I am the single childless oonly child of two only chilldren - makes for a VERY short shopping list

I totally lucked out with this space. It is HUGE with the unique for lofts aspect of having a seperate bedroom (the kitchen is its own room also). After working out of my home for the past few years I learned the hard way that the most important and difficult thing is being able to escape your work so I have decided to make what is supposed to be the bedroom into my office. There are no doors but the former residents left an amazing 10ft screen/portable wall that I am using to cut off view while allowing entrance. The main space is in an L shape so I can set up my sleeping area in a way that is not visable from the living area. One of the neatest aspects are the steps in the sleeping area that lead to a window and walk out sun box. I got rid of most of my furniture when I moved so I don't envision having this place done for a few months - I have a picure in my head as to what I want, now I just get the grand adventure of trying to find it. I guess you could say I will be doing much christmas shopping for myself.

BTW - I barely moved for two days after I finished getting in here. My feet felt like they belonged to a 97 year old woman, I was convinced my arches were collapsing with each step, and my legs and shoulders felt like they did after my first day back in the gym for my high school swim team - In the future I will consider the act of moving to be a spectator sport, not something to be participated in myself.

So the secret is short shopping lists, huh? Too late for me.

The loft sounds FANTASTIC, fenix. I wish you great adventures finding your furnishings and setting it up so it's 'you'.

the act of moving to be a spectator sport, not something to be participated in myself. LOL at your description of your physical condition during the move. I remember it all too well.

I'm so happy for you. Enjoy, enjoy.

I've bought very little. In fact, it's going to be a slim Christmas this year with finances being so tight. I bought a desk for my studious 5-year-old granddaughter, a food processor for my daughter and a necklace/earring set for my mother. Usually by now I'm done. Christmas is creeping up too fast this year. My boyfriend and I are not buying for each other this year. The house needs gutters so that will be our gift. That's a-okay with me. A dry basement has been a dream of mine for the last year or so. It's not a great feeling when you walk into the basement with dry socks and walk up from the basement with soggy socks!

Have you said that to her face yet?

Fenix, that sounds ultra exciting!! You'll have to get one of those huge, oversized clocks for your new pad. They always look so great in loft spaces!

NearTheSea - YES...it is exciting. Thanks for posting those beautiful pictures. It looks so warm and inviting. Beautiful.....just beautiful.

And yes, only 18 more shopping days until Christmas.

Haven't started my shopping yet, but going to do a little this coming Monday or Tuesday. I've been dogsitting for friends, and he's a HUGE, untrained baby. It's hard to go out with him...he's so strong...and he doesn't do well being left at home alone or in my car or truck.

You are getting me motivated. [Thank you] I had decided not to put a tree up this year, just up to getting the Christmas stuff down from the garage attic. BUT after seeing your tree this morning....I did put two strings of white lights on a big birch tree [artificial] that's out year round. Then thought...okay I have a couple of boxes of ornaments in the hobby room...pulled them out and put them on the tree. So...now I have a decorated tree, such as it is. Doesn't look like a Christmas tree, but is 'in the spirit' of Christmas.

I hope others decide to post their decorations or update us on how they're doing with 'getting into the spirit'.

I'm down to one gift to buy! Thank goodness! My children all wanted very large items this year so there isn't much to wrap. I've decided to wrap them in brown kraft paper (I have about 5 rolls) and have my granddaughter decorate them with markers and crayons. Will save a heck of a lot of money on wrapping paper and should be fun! Tomorrow we are going to an Eastern Star Christmas party and then we are coming home to make a gingerbread house. Should give my daughter's new boyfriend a real taste of what family life is like at my house during the holiday! Fun, fun, fun. I wasn't going to decorate this year, but I did anyway. I'm sooooo glad I did!

NTS - but don't think thats happening LOL ... sure doesn't sound like it.

Did you make or buy the Republican ornaments? They're cute. Glad they sold so well...that's a great sign. hmmmm....better sell millions of them....weddings are VERY expensive.
--------

Cheryl - Glad you decided to decorate too.

And the gingerbread house sounds like fun. I remember the first one we did with my oldest granddaugher [now 14]...or as she says 14 1/2 grandma!! [Yes, I remember when that 1/2 was soooo very important.] Anyway we had a great time putting it together...and many laughs.

Cheryl that sounds like so much fun!

My oldest is coming over tommorow, she bought a book to make your own gifts, its for cookies. You layer the dry ingredients in a 1 qt mason jar and then hang the recipe from the jar, for the person to add the eggs and butter. You cover it with Christmas fabric. She is so excited, she loves crafty things. If I mention gingerbread house, she'll wanna make one!

Linda, no, we didn't make those. Our friends from Poland go over there 3x a year, and they bring back cargo loads of Polish pottery and glass Christmas ornaments, they are supposed to be like Radko, the co. is named Ramar. And yes, the gold elephant sold out, and they also make stars and stripes pottery now, that really sells also.

But of course, we had to keep one for ourselves

Come on you guys, going on only 17 days now!

Doesn't look like I'll be having much of a Christmas this year. Came home this evening to discover that my Greyhound, Merlin, had somehow managed to get a huge hole torn just above his tail. Shaped like an "L," it is about 3.5 inches across on one side, and about 1.5 inches across on the other. Definitely in need of stitches--Greyhounds have tight, thin skin that just keeps tearing & tearing if cuts are left unattended. And of course, this being after-hours, the vet charges about 3 times what they normally would. I just got handed a whopping bill for $600!!!! I had to pay half of it tonight.

Merlin has to stay all night & I pick him up tomorrow morning. I am hoping to persuade them to allow me to make payments on the $300 remaining--I don't have high hopes for that, though. There goes Christmas, I guess. I was just getting started buying presents.

Feeling depressed right now

How awful for Merlin and you. Poor thing! I love greyhounds. They're so regal and elegant. I had a Christmas like that once. My solution was to bake my little heart out. Now, I'm not the world's greatest baker, but everyone loved the gifts. You can buy tins at the dollar store. I lined them with wax paper and layered cookies inside. For those who you don't want to go through all the trouble for, I've also found fruitcake at the dollar store. Just a thought.
