Yup have to watch out for people who have almanacs and maps - especially if they are LOOKING at landmarks such as bridges and cities.

link below

Pretty soon it will be like the USSR used to be where having a map was illegal and branded you as an enemy of the state.
Of course it may put a real dent in tourism if you haul away and interogate everyone who is caught pulled over with a MAP looking at the Golden Gate or the Washington Momument or trying to find the airport or Disney World.
Damn foolishness is what it is.
They couldn't find their ass with both hands in the dark much less a terrorist.

I think you may have meant to post this link:

--------

They couldn't find their ass with both hands in the dark much less a terrorist.

I think that the fact that we've had no re-occurences of 9-11 says they're doing something right.

They have found terrorists in our country who have been arrested, tried and convicted.

Remember the 6 Yemeni-Americans arrested in Lackawanna, NY? Remember Richard Reid - the shoe bomber? Remember the 4 people from Oregon and 1 from Michigan that were arrested in Oregon? Remember the guy from Canada who had a car full of explosives?

All those were potential threats that were prevented from completing their deeds.

Lets not congratulate ourselves too much on Richard Reid -

1) We didn't catch him - a plane full of passengers did.
2) By all reports, the prevailing reason his mission failed was due to with him walking in puddles on the way to the airport. Otherwise the fuse would have been dry and would have only taken one attempt to light it. By the time the stewardess wwould have noticed the sulfur smell from his matches, she would have had about enough time to say "Excuse me sir ..."

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

BTW - I went to the first link and have to say that someone needs to point out the irritatingly excessive use of "All Right" by Bill O'Reilly. It's a horrible habit for an interviewer.

I'm not fenix, but I do think that there's been a ton of behind-the-scene work going on that has prevented another attack like 9-11.

It's give credit where credit is due. We won't really ever know how many other people/terrorists have been prevented from trying something because of some of the measures that have been put in place.

Well now that the word is out in mainstream media - I don't think Almanac Watch 2003-4 is going to bag many bad guys. They now know not to keep it on the passenger seat while speeding or to take it on an airplane and stick "BOMB HERE" Post-Its o dog eared pages in front of the armed on board guard.

Correct that was the wrong link - thanks.

Maybe they send out bull like this as disinformation to make the terrorists thik they are a bunch of idiots and it makes others think that as an unimportant side effect.

I just came in from the porch. I spend each evening out there beating two sticks together to keep away bears. Must work, haven't seen any bears in a long time

"The FBI noted that use of almanacs or maps may be innocent, "the product of legitimate recreational or commercial activities." But it warned that when combined with suspicious behavior — such as apparent surveillance — a person with an almanac "may point to possible terrorist planning." "

Yep, better watch out for people with Fodor guides, too!

I get asked for almanacs, maps, Fodor guides, etc. several times every day. Guess Homeland Security must be peeing in their pants to think about how dangerous libraries are to the security of the country! Yes sir, we have to beat the terrorists off with a stick every day...

My what a glib and childish remark profe...

I think some of this is extreme, but some is not, we had a vehicle "disabled" on a major bridge for 2 days and it wasn't towed... now that should of been done right away.

Bush has neglected the war on terrorism. Homeland Security is nothing but political rhetoric for the American people.
