What's funny is she told her classmate he would go to hell for swearing by God. But they didn't suspend him for taking the Lord's name in vain. Soulds like he was the one swearing and she was making as serious a religeous statement as any preacher in the pulpit.

I can't count how many teachers told me I was going to hell in school.....

Okay, this has tipped my "insanity" scale.

We've got a cabal of posters here who think Christian-based schools would be a good thing. I dunno how any well educated Christian could not come into contact with the word "hell" in the course of their bible-based education.

Would they be punished for citing hell in their term papers?

More to say, but I want to see what other Vendio posters report...

Makes as much sense as sending a kid to drug avoiding classes for taking an aspirin without permission. Kids will think they are a doctor ya know?

Similarly I suppose you can only use a word like hell after you have had a few years training at
theology.

If seriously mentioning hell is profane then isn't swearing by God equally so? Perhaps if the kid had just shouted Jesus Christ! that would have qualified as profanity.

They don't define what profane is at the school and somehow I doubt if the teachers have much religeous instruction in determaining what is profane. Seems like a lot to expect of teachers if they are not trained in religion. I mean that is what profanity is all about isn't it?
Or is there secular profanity? What if she had said "Oh poo.."

7 year olds...good grief! Both students should have been counseled about potentially offensive speech and the matter dropped.

In a few years a historian will probably be looking at old school transcripts trying to understand early education and say - "What the (&*^%$ is profanity?" - and have to go look it up.

Prof for President - he's practical.

I agree with the profe on this one. Way too much made out of nothing. Children have acted this way since time began. Over-reacting just as many teachers/administers do in this zero-tolerance issue in the school system now.

Oh I agree - I got an express ticket - it's just a question of how big an honor guard I can take down with me when I go.
