Yawn...

Do you have kids, Bear? If so, didn't you find the dry-humping act far more offensive than The Breast?

What annoyed me about this whole thing is the FCC, CBS, et.al, all saying this is a "family" type event. Since when? Football has always been a raunchy grownup guy thing. Beer, Football, Men violently pummeling each other over a ball....But now its supposed to be like Thanksgiving day in January or something?

neroter12 - Are you saying all that humping [that some consider dancing] and showing of JJ's breast is okay by you during the established 'family viewing tv time'?

Imo, this is what CBS should have expected from MTV....it's earned it's own reputation and is a terrible influence on our young people. For CBS to act surprised that JJ would do/pull something like this....especially when she has a new album coming out and wants all the publicity she can get....is just naive, imo.

Linda, much to your chagrin, all that humping is kinda the norm now in dancing. Its nothing the kids have not seen before. It doesnt mean they are going to try and do it or want to do it themselves. Much like Elvis' gyrating hips back in the fifties.

No...not at all like Elvis. And I don't live in a vaccuum....I know many people dance like this. It's accepted because too many appear not to teach any moral standards to their children. Humping each other during family time, intentionally exposing a breast during family tv time should receive a big, hefty fine, imo. Might just discourage this behavior continuing.

Not only do I have kids but grandkids (4) in all. All boys, the oldest is 18, youngest is 4. The oldest made a comment I was proud to hear, He said "there is a time and place for that type of performance & it shouldn't be aired on public tv". The kid has morals taught by his parents, that were taught by her parents.

Whether by accident or not the exposure was totally offensive to be aired on public television. I don't fault CBS, those individuals involved should be held accountable for their actions.

As far as "DANCING" including dry humping it too is very offensive. It is a sign of too liberal parents not teaching their children true family values. Allowing them to run wild without accounting for their actions.

If I wanted to see that I'd rent a x-rated video.

I bet you've never danced the Tango, Linda. (Partners are right there, so you better like each other a bit! But I doubt you have any appreciation for that dance.

Family-Schmamily. The news is on at family hour. Sixty minutes is on at family hour. Discover channel runs all kinds of programs at family hour. ANY and all of these shows might expose children to terrors much more scarier and damming than hump dancing. Football is a growns man's game. If you object to a boob shown for half-a-milliesecond, why dont you object to the sheer violence of the game of Football itself?? Why is it so widely accepted to kick back, have some beers and watch a football game? You know why? Because its fun and relaxing for ADULTS. Its called distraction. And many get their repressed aggressions somehow sorted out with it. Aggression doesnt go away because someone declares its "family-hour" on tv. Do I think it was right what she did? No. But should it be made into a federal case. No, to that too. It was a stupid publicity stunt, but no one will even be thinking about it in a week or so.

I think you're missing the point. Certain things are allowed during the family hour and certain things aren't. Frontal nudity isn't. Period.

And the Tango is, again, nothing like the dancing that was going on during 1/2 time. I understand the 'anything goes' train of thought, I just don't agree with it. And obviously many others, who are currently making a stink about the nudity and offensive dancing, hold different values than those who find this acceptable.

Linda, please dont judge my values as somehow less than yours simply because I choose NOT to be offended by a dumb stunt.

Same as you apparently choose not to be offended in watching a grown man's neck snap back and forth, and call it sport.

I dont think I am missing the point at all here. Pro Football is mostly sponcered by the beer companies; its all about raunch and all that he-man agression. Always has been. The core audience here is not the father knows best families. The fact that it aired during family tv time is just another excuse to quash the entertainment industry at pushing the envelope. It could have aired at 10:00 pm, and those that want to complain about it would still be doing so.

What is this need to sanitize everything??
If the moral majority had their way, everything would be so boring!! Linda needs to roll around and get some dirt on her or something!! lol.

Obviously some never learned the difference between a singer who will show her body parts for attention, and how a real lady behaves. Has to do with different morals. We each choose our own.

So what? She showed her breast? Making such a big stink about it would only make all these children, that watch the Super Bowl, think something's wrong with breasts. You all make it sound like these family people will need counselling now.

No KD - it's all about limits....and what's appropriate in what venue. Everyone's always pushing the boundries....if it's overlooked then we'll be watching more advanced sexual activity on tv during 'family time'. Those who have children are concerned about what they see and what views those children form about a lot of behaviors in our society. This is only one of them.

Linda, I think the stunt probably ended Janet's career. Even without the breast, the whole thing seemed outdated at best. But Neroter makes a good point. These games have big money advertisers that promote drinking, sex, violence and consumerism, yet that's OK because it's always been done that way. If they want sports events to be family oriented, they should show re-runs of Little House on the Prarie at half time.

The Breast in question was seen for only a couple of seconds--I sincerely doubt that it will scar the psyches of anyone watching.

I wonder how many of the people condemning those seconds of the Breast's air time, are among the Militant Mommies who have absolutely no problem whipping out their breasts whereever they may be to feed their kids & eschew discreet blankets "because it is natural." I've got a couple who come into the library & do it with kids of all ages present.

Linda, don't you remember when parents thought the beatles with their shaggy hair was something to be alarmed about?

How tame that is now in comparision. But the feelings and sentiments were the same, dont you think? Inappropriate, A-Moral, etc.,etc.

The reason I don't watch football ( other than the fact that it is profoundly boring) is that you always have to look at the crowd shots of those drunk, fat, shirtless doofuses who have painted themselves up to resemble their favorite team's mascot, hooting like a bunch of gorillas......now that's offensive

Ann Coulter 2-4-04

"Former front-runner Howard Dean sat out this week's primaries, but still managed to make news by ridiculing the FCC's plan to investigate MTV's halftime show at the Super Bowl. Dean pronounced the proposed investigation "silly." He explained that, as a doctor, a naked breast is "not exactly an unusual phenomenon for me."

"That's an interesting standard. Presumably a primetime exhibition of Janet Jackson having a full pelvic exam and pap smear would not be "exactly an unusual phenomenon" for Dean either. Let's just be grateful Dean's not a proctologist."
