The head al qaeda honcho says there will be more attacks on the U.S. and you believe it? They're probably all sitting around a tv laughing at everyone running around, spending more money on security measures.

Yes, KD I do believe what any person says....until such time I find I've been lied to. I think A-Qs past actions against our National interests clearly show their intent.

But Linda - they have been saying this for the past two years. Everytime we hear from one of Al-Q they are about to launch another 9-11 style attack against the US. The ont thing I find interesting about that is that is you remember that tape shortly after 9/11 - they were shocked and amazed that they pulled it off and they actually did not expect to bing the towers down so how in the world are they planning something on the same scale of something they never really planned in the first place?

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

And many believe the reason we haven't had more attacks is because of some of the changes that have been put in place to prevent further actions....at least making it harder for them. There have been A-Q attacks, since 9-11, in other countries. They too are working to shore up their security.
I understand some feel banging sticks together would do just as good a job as what we're currently doing. I just don't happen to agree that doing nothing is the answer as to how to best deal with this.
Everytime we hear from one of Al-Q they are about to launch another 9-11 style attack against the US. "about to"....They "warned us" before 9-11, too, after they'd attacked the USS Cole, embassies, etc. That's the way terrorism works....keep threatening. Should we believe their intentions towards us are good? They mean us no harm even when they say AND ACT differently?
Is there a democrat that's calling for us to dismantle our Home Land Security department? To drop our defenses because they see no threat by these terrorists?
they were shocked and amazed that they pulled it off and they actually did not expect to bring the towers down Yes, but what I remember was they were shocked 'at how much damage was caused'....not that they just pulled this off.
What would you do, or like to see done, if you were making the decisions about how best to put our limited funds in action to protect our country from future threats?
Or should we just ignore this issue just like some blame both administrations of doing before 9-11?

Linda, there's a threat every week. How can Bush say they (al qaeda, osama) work slow but all of the sudden there's all these threats? Are they covering their butts in case something really happens? Could these attack "leaks" be part of a bigger plan to make you think terrorism ($$) is a bigger threat than it really is??

Linda - I'd like to see our government stop trying to trample on oiur rights and find the guy. He may never strike another blow against the US but the fact is he has already won. To many live in fear and are willing to give up every aspect of personal freedom guaranteedby the constitution just so that they can continue to live another day fearful that this may be the one.
Stop teying to figure out more ways to screw the US privacy laws and start putting real effort into finding the guy.
I'm willing to bet there are more than a few at the justice department that will morn the day that Osama is caught.

No, I don't believe that, KD. If it were then the democratic party leaders would certainly be pointing that out, wouldn't they?
That's why I asked the above questions. Maybe you'd like to address them yourself?

KD - I also wanted to say that these threats aren't coming from this administration, although many here have said they see this administration as being terrorists themselves. I don't agree.
The threats are direct quotes, tapes from the leaders of those who HAVE attacked our country.
I, along with millions of Americans, give Bush extremely high ratings for the actions he's taken.

fenix - start putting real effort into finding the guy. So you don't think we're really looking for binLaden? You think our military is just being used to play games in all these dangerous areas of the world? That they're not really doing their best, giving their all, to find this guy. Especially when it would be the best thing to happen in an election year? I'm sorry...I just don't buy that.
But I'm still not clear on what you see we SHOULD be doing to capture him. Exactly what 'real effort'?

It will take another 9/11 size disaster before national security becomes the top issue again. One thing Nader said that makes a lot of sense on Hardball yesterday. "The US has attention deficit disorder". Most people are more concerned with the economy, jobs and healthcare than they are with security right now.
linda back at ya!
