I just had to post this...taken from MSNBC 'First Read' as so many here have noted President Bush's vacation periods. Of course, most were taken when the House and/or the Senate was also on vacation.
As both candidates seem likely to return to DC for votes tomorrow, the Boston Herald reports Kerry "has been a virtual no-show in the U.S. Senate over the past 14 months, but he hasn't missed a paycheck, even though a dusty federal law says some of his $158,000 salary should have been withheld . . .
During his run for the presidency, Kerry has missed every one of the 22 roll call votes in the Senate this year and was absent for 292, or 64 percent of the roll call votes last year, according to a Herald review of Senate records."

oh yeah... ALL Presidents have taken long vacations, and they've always (and had to and always have been) working vacations
I heard the complaints here, but All Presidents when taking vacations, are always working. When a President is sedated for a root canal, the VP is usually sworn in, thats how important the Presidents job is. (ok maybe that was going too far with the root canal , but when he is put out with heavy sedatives or anthesia (sp??), as for an minor operation the VP IS sworn in while he's under )
