Martha Stewart has been found guilty on four counts.
I really didn't think she was innocent but I thought she'd probably get off.

About time! For far too long the small investor has been cheated while the top dogs got off scott free and with their pockets full.
I just can not see her getting 20 years but she will get real jail time. The worst part is how they think that what they do is ok.
Welcome martha...lol

I wonder if Martha will be using her own line of products to beautify her cell.
Who knows maybe she will come up with a new line of products for "prison living".

Ok she was probably guilty - now what about all the REAL serious criminals that have stripped millions of people of their pensions and life savings?

She is far from just a petty cheat. She also sat on the NYSE board as a member.
If the investor's large or small have no faith in the board to do what is right it could destroy the entire stock exchange.
It would be a huge disaster. They are going after the scum from Enron, World dot.com
Its not over yet.
I do put Martha right up there with the rest of the scum.

trai, they ran a check on everybody who sold Imaclone (*sp) right before that announcement and they actually pulled her name off a list of people they 'suspected'.
What of the others? I think I read somewhere that she stood to shield about 51,000 from it. I hope they just levy her a big fine and leave her alone on appeal.
I want to see what they do with that world.com CEO and Enron execs.

As I have stated before they are going after those scumbags also. If I had anything to do with it I would strip them of all their assets and then send them to prison for life!
[Firing squad would be better]
Do not feel sorry for Martha as she knew what she was doing. All this over 51000 dollars.
The legal bill will be in the millions not to mention the loss to her company.
Plain stupid greed.
We should not excuse her just because she is a woman. If she told the truth in the beginning she would not now be in this pickle.

She lied about a small change transaction (by comparison) and got the full measure of the law thrown at her, yet there weren't really any victims in this deal......wonder how many of the scum who cost thousands of Americans their total retirement security will ever see the inside of jail, much less even have to show up for court..
Clearly, the gov't. chose her as an easy mark to make it look like they're "doing something" about sleazy stock transactions. Now everybody can feel real good about it, especially since she inspired such jealousy on the part of so many to begin with. Makes it a whole lot easier to forget about the real criminals who are walking around free, their pockets fat with the cash of American worker's retirement accounts.

Viacom-Owned Stations Stop Airing Stewart's Show
Report: Stewart To Step Down From Board
POSTED: 10:25 p.m. EST March 7, 2004
UPDATED: 2:24 p.m. EST March 8, 2004
NEW YORK -- Martha Stewart's syndicated television show, "Martha Stewart Living," was taken off the air Monday on Viacom-owned CBS and UPN stations.
There was no immediate word about the show's future from King World, the show's syndicator, but the Viacom-owned stations in major media markets were considered its most important customers, according to Bill Carroll, an expert on syndication for Katz Television.
While "Martha Stewart Living" was considered a dependable performer in some markets, it was shunted off to undesirable time slots elsewhere, airing at 2 a.m. in New York City, for example.
The move comes after CBS's New York affiliate decided to pull the plug on Stewart's syndicated lifestyle television show.

Thanks for that link, Linda. What a list!! One thing I noticed is that none of them are in jail. They're all waiting to be sentenced or still being investigated. While Martha may have duped investors out of $225,000.00 these big wigs ruined many people lives and life savings. I wonder what the steepest jail term would be if any end up there?
Prof, I guess this makes me a CEO-basher.

Kraft, the delay in prosicution of the Enron execs is due entirely to the complexity of the paper trail.
I worked for Enron until Dec 1997. The way that company spent money was incredable. The desk chairs were all identical @ $600.00 each. I was told to order a wide screen monitor to attach to a computer that could be moved from floor to floor for conferences. I wasn't given any price guide lines, but I didn't feel comfortable spending a great deal of money & as it was ordered a $10,000 monitor with one phone call & a verbal purchase order.
Don't get me started on computers. We would just complete updating the desktop computers when a newer faster model was inrtoduced wer started all over again replacing all 5000 systems.
Greed, too much money to spend with little accountbility is what led to Enron's downfall.
The Democrats ran on 'Honesty' and I told 'em at the time they would never get anywhere. It was too radical for politics. The Republicans ran on 'Common Sense' and the returns showed that there were 8 million more people in the United States who had 'Common Sense' enough not to believe that there was 'Honesty' in politics." --Will Rogers

I see what you mean, Bear. It almost makes me sick to my stomach hearing about the excess. A bit OT, but I watched something on tv that showed Donald Trump's apartment, and it showed a huge marble fountain in the the middle of the damn living room!

BS, she was guilty, she tried to hide it & wasn't successful. If she had admitted her guilt or NEVER TALKED WITHOUT HER ATTORNEYS PRESENT, she wouldn't have been prosecuted.
But NO, she thought she was smarter than the Feds. They couldn't touch her, she was Martha Stewart, she could do no wrong.
Maybe she should just run off to Canada & hide.

Yeah, bear, they just love to pass up an airtight case, doncha know.
I dont know what planet you live on, but here's a clue: insider trading goes on everyday. Only they call it networking now. Chums and pals go out for drinks or dinner and sorta, kinda, discuss things. You're so happy she got prosecuted, but if you think for one minute your rich-butt idols arent protecting their ass-etts, you've got your head deeper in the sand than I had previouly thought.

neroter - So are you suggesting that *anyone* who's doing 'insider trading' shouldn't be taken to task on it, especially if they are just 'small fish'? Or?
Martha Stewart is a well known name. The prosecutors got a big 'bang' for their bucks by trying her vs some unknown person that served on the stock exchange.
I think her being found guilty, her being a felon now, will make a huge impression on those who might be doing exactly what she did. Might just make them think twice about their own actions.
and that's a 'good thing'.
