This is long (10 pages), so I won't post it all, but it makes very interesting reading.
Bush & Co. knowingly lied to Congress about the cost of his Medicare bill. They used threats to keep the information quiet. And they used strongarm tactics to force the bill's passage--even to threatening Republican Representatives. One representative who held out against all threats, Republican Nick Smith even had his son's political career threatened because he wouldn't change his vote. And Medicare Administrator Scully (Bush appointee) received an ethics waiver so while he was negotiating the Medicare bill he was able to simultaneously negotiate with various companies for his next job — companies representing health-care interests that stand to make millions from the actual bill.
Business as usual in the Bush administration...
