Is it JUST the station near me or does anyone else notice that the rate of delivery of hose speed SLOWS,,,,,,,,,,,down considerably at around the LAST $3.00.....I hand the attendant $40.00.....I go and pump the gas,,,and it is just zooooooooooooming,,,,,and THEN,,,,,,$3.00 before I have filled the $40.00,,,,,, the pump suddenly,,,,begins to crawl at the pace of a snail,,,,,$37.01......02.....03........04......I can't think of a LegaL term for what they ARE intentionally doing but,,,,Perhaps the State Of California does,,,,intentional delay of product in ORDER to cause a consumer to hang up the hose without filling,,,,,, out of Frustration and as we all know,,,,,everyone is in a Hurry! Screw the $2.00 I gotta GO! and I am SURE many DO just that.....
When gas was CHEAPER the pumps(yes I said pumps,,,all of them are NOW slower, I stood and WATCHED many of the pumps) slowed down around .50 cents at the end of the filling process.....I am FULLY aware of what their intention is,,,,,,

When you are filling your tank the gas comes out of the hose at a pretty high rate of speed, sometimes causing "waves" in the tank. Since you bought $X amount of gas, they make the assumption that your tank will be nearly full up once you start approaching that amount of gas.

By reducing the speed of flow, they reduce the waves, allowing more gas to be pumped before "filling" the tank or causing the pump handle to think your tank is full.

The slowdown IS intentional, but it's not a conspiracy!

By the way,,,,the pumps can be set to sloooooooow down at whatever rate the station desires,,,,,$3.00 or .50 cents or right to the last penny......clink.

Sorry replay , this IS in fact a ploy and THEY ARE WELL aware of it.......

$3.00 is a LONG ways from making ANY waves.......

I got the Stations Corporate H.Q. number and WILL be calling them in the morning and IF those pumps don't deliver in a MORE timely fashion(within a week ) I WILL be contacting the STATE Of California Dept.of Weights and measures......

They ARE Intentionally doing WHAT they are DOING and know darn well,,,,,

Dear Gov - I feel that gas stations are ripping me and others like me off. In an apparent effort to capitalize on those that have the patience of a three year old they slow down deliver rate of the final gallon and a half of gas inhopes that our ADD will win out over common sense. The fools for ridiculous causes vote is yours to be had if can correct this immediately.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

The pumps slow down so they won't overshoot the amount asked for.

The same thing happens here in Ohio. It's universal and yes, frustrating. "Over shooting" is not the issue. The pump is set to automatically shut off if you request a certain amount of gas (however, not with a "fill up".) If I'm using my credit card, I don't have to go inside. If I'm "shooting" for $10 worth of gas, the pump goes so fast I always go past the $10. However, if I go inside and give the attendant $40 and say I want to fill my tank, it slows down for the last $10 or so. My theory is that since they don't set the pump to automatically stop when you say you are filling up, they want to be sure you don't go over the amount you gave them and then take off. It happens a lot. I don't really have this problem at the small independent gas stations. It's the major ones like BP, Shell, etc. where the problem lays.
