Why is it that some people here can't put their own words into posts? Anymore, it seems like some post links to answer questions instead of coming out and saying how you feel. We all know that there's a right and left side, so instead of providing links to support your views, why don't you just come out and say how you feel? Do you feel you need to link everything to provide justification for your thoughts??

What? And have a real debate? Not going to happen. Would be nice to see why people feel the way they do but don't hold your breath waiting.

If someone asks me a question I can usually say how I feel about it with my own words and thinking. I bring links here when I start new topics about current events. I bring links here when someone says something that isn't true and the link provides the proof....... like that whole silly TV in Canada thread the other day with the outdated links that someone was posting when they didn't know dick about it.

Most of the time I say what I feel and I bear the consequences of it. Other times I don't bother saying what I'm really feeling because I know better.

Good thought, Kraftdinner! Ebay Outlook is interesting in that respect-- where you can find personal opinions rather than long, boring cut and paste articles from somewhere on the internet.

kraft, now that would be interesting huh

I'm for it

I already have said, I don't like googling everything, but I have, and have out of curiousity.

So..... what shall we debate without links, OR! copying and pasting from somewhere else? (I've done that too! ) but will not, if you really want to do this.

I think it would be great.

So..... lets start a topic with no links or copy/paste allowed!

A real debate? It happens now and again.

What I hate most about reading the links that are provided is when someone takes it upon themselves to bold so much in it that it makes it difficult for my eyes to follow smoothly like normal reading.

Bolding one or two sentences to make a point is okay but not when it's a very long article to read.

And I understand why some provide links to support what they are talking about. Some of the links provided are super because I haven't seen the site before and I can explore further. Other times I just shake my head when I see where the info is coming from.

Links that explain a topic are fine, but when all you get are links in a post to explain your views, it gets stupid, like the person doesn't know what to say unless they provide some silly link. I'm certainly not talking about you or Kiara, Trai. I've rarely read links from you that have been useless reading - it's just the links that answer questions or aid in a "debate" that bugs me. How many of you actually read some of these l-o-n-g drawn out links? Just say stuff in your own words for a change. Just try it, OK?

A couple of people here have stated that they don't read long articles with fragmented bolding.

Helen, I don't read many long c&p posts because it tends to be propaganda dribble. To me, it's like a form of dumbing down when a person can't come up with their own thoughts. I'm sick of it!

There are more serious issues here to deal with than links to articles. But I agree that more personal opinion and less reliance on copy paste would be a good goal.

And Helen, just so you know, and some are free to disgree, but the links you've provided regarding the Afghanistan and Iraqi wars have been super. You provide your own explanation to your links, which makes a person want to read it. Also, yours tend to be more news oriented instead of providing a link to justify your position. The REAL guilty ones know who they are.

Kiara - I have mentioned the bolding and how visually disracting and intellectuLally condescending it is but was basicall told to go pound sand.

Lately I have been finding soe of the bolding practices quite amusing - there is a great example in one that Linda posted recenntly where two inflammatory comments are bolded yet the two follow up statements that change the flavor of the bolded statement dramatically are left alone. I guess she was hoping we would only read what is bolded, the actual context of the statements is irrelevent.

I find it especially funny that our bold happy pals are also usually ones that claim that the media is consistantly trying to slant the news when they attempt to do the same thing with selective bolding.

At this point in time I am so sick of having idealogical debates with writers from WorldNewsDaily (or whatever it is called) that I am officially calling a boycott. I agree with Krafty - it's time to stop wasting time with people who don't have an original thought in their head. Post an article and then lets debate the topic but have the brains and the guts to express your own opinions not hide behind preformed replies of others.

In all fairness to Linda, when she wants to debate she can be pretty good at it.

I've thought of a few topics that I may wish to debate but right now I've got a bounced check from one of my bidders that I'm going to try to do something about.

I believe that the U.S. president should be a brilliant person. As per kraft's request, I have no links to support this.

Well, I believe that everyone has a right to their own opinion, and not be ragged on because they do, UNLESS the opinion is a rude and condecending one.

Yes, Linda, is great in a debate.

Bounced checks suck, sorry kiara

In addition to the use of long bolded text, another tactic that I would like to see stopped is the unfair practice of attributing thoughts to posters that they have never stated or inferred.

Nearthesea,

Althought I could provide links, I'd rather not. Just consider it an idea that would improve the debating format here.

I'm not Helen, but I can answer that one.

A recent example that comes to mind in my case, is the thread about the "church college." Although I had repeatedly said that I had no problem with the scholl teaching the students there in whatever manner they like, Linda and one other kept stating that I believed just the opposite.

You clowns wouldn't know real debate if it bit you in the ass...

You can't start debates about politics calling the President names... links or no links... at least they give substance.

Overuse of anything loses its effectiveness over time, Twelve. I'll give you credit for not swamping your posts with c&p articles, probably because you don't know how to, but some here do. I'm not trying to change anything, I'd just like to see more people read an article and give their opinion, instead of using every article they can find to back up their ideas, that's all.

Politics and religon do not spark good debate...

Politics and religion are always good topics for debate. Problem is, people like you who don't know what their own brain is for, need to use the Bible or quotes from their favorite hero to form their own opinions. While you haven't yet mastered the c&p technique, 10% of your own posts are devoted to the most useless information available, while the other 90% is filled with signature lines to take up space. Do you honestly think nobody notices?

Clue: "debate" doesn't involve hurling invective and names at the people you are "debating" with...
