Too bad the people who took these polls couldn't have opened their eyes sooner.
. . . .The highest figure ever recorded, 64 percent, say the result of the war in Iraq has not been worth the cost in lives or money. Only 29 percent, the lowest figure yet, believe the war has been worth it. And just 31 percent of Americans now say the United States is winning the war.
"The public is just very unhappy with what has happened in the war," said Robert Shapiro, a professor of American politics and public opinion at Columbia University. "We are talking about perceptions of the war that are akin to the publics perception on Vietnam, or lower."

Linda - this is not splitting hairs on wording - you have entirely different questions being asked.
There is a huge difference between "Do you feel this was has been worth the cost", "Do you think we are winning the war" and "How is Bush handling the war"

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

fenix - First of all it would be VERY hard to find another poll that worded the question exactly the same way.
Second CBS is the MOST anti-Bush TV/news media out there. [Short of the NY Times]
Third I discount the poll altogether because of the extremely small number of people polled.
We have how many millions of people who voter in the US? compared to this....
The CBS News poll was conducted on Tuesday with a random phone sampling of 448 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
As I've said before.....we find polls that show what we want to believe - hope to be true....doesn't mean they truly represent what all the voters think/feel.

Do you really believe that the majority of Americans right now feel that this war has been worth the cost and the loss of lives? Even now knowing that the whole reason for it was a farce, and even given that even Powell has spoken out and said it was a farce you still believe that most Americans think this was worth it, and that we are winning?

Yes to your first question.
Even now knowing that the whole reason for it was a farce, and even given that even Powell has spoken out and said it was a farce you still believe that most Americans think this was worth it, and that we are winning?
The whole reason wasn't a 'farse'....and Powell has never used that term when describing the incorrect intelligence they were given.
And yes, I do believe most American's still think it was worth removing saddam and are on our side....hoping we win......unlike many democrats who appear to be praying we don't because they believe it will help kerry get elected.

Linda - Powell said that info that was given was INTENTIONALLY wrong. When someone intentionally lies to you, what do you call it?
I am declaring this thread an anti deflection zone Linda - the opolls are about are about beliefs in what is actually going on, lets not not deflect this into the dispicable accusation that people are hoping for more deaths which is what you are saying when you say that democrats want us to "lose". Personally I think this is a no win situation.

Wow, Linda, you are way off base. Do you really think it's okay with the majority of the American people that so many of our men are being killed in a war that was based on lies? I think it's time to come out of your cocoon. The world is passing you right by. Blind loyalty is indeed a dangerous thing.
And, if you think for one moment that democrats want us to "lose" so that more of our men are killed, you are even more off your rocker than you've been sounding lately.
