Well, bear, hell has frozen over because on this we agree.

I know very little about my paternal grandfather other than that he was killed in WWII. This has always been time I was keenly aware of this man and an entire part of my family that I never knew. Bless him and all the other that were lost and those that survived in search of such a noble goal.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

The 5 must influential men in my early years were all vets.

My father served in the Navy during WWI, I only knew him 5 years before he died. But whenever you saw him, you saw me, we were almost unrepeatable. He was the youngest of 4 children & I was the first male born into the family in 51 years.

My step father served in the Army in WWII & saw extensive action through Europe including the Battle of the Bulge. He served in the 300th Combat Engineering Battalion of the 100th Infantry Division, building bridges, blowing up bridges, setting mine fields, clearing mine fields. The stories he could tell. I know it was even more difficult for him while he was born & raised in the US, his mother & father came to the US from Germany in the early 1900's & he still had relatives living in Germany.

A junior high/high school girl friends father that became like another father to me served in the Navy during WWII on the aircraft Carrier Enterprise as a Aviation Machinists Mate. Harold would sit and talk to me for hours of his experiences (good & bad). He never could get through a story without breaking down telling of the friends he lost in battle.

One brother-in-law served on the USS Mississippi (Battleship) in the South Pacific during WWII. It was a very luck ship, it was struck by a Japanese Kamikaze and survived.

Another brother-in-law served in the Army in Europe and reached the rank of Capitan.

After the war ended my father sent his two young sons-in-law back to school & paid their way through law school. Upon their graduation
he brought them into his law practice.

These 5 honorable men who answered the call to duty (all of whom have passed) made me into what I am today.

To all of them I say, thanks for all your sacrifices. You are the Greatest Generation.

I love you all.

(And maybe this will help some of you understand my way of thinking & my political stance)
