Question:

Do you consider the United States the greatest nation in the world?

Rules of the poll.
1) you can only answer YES or NO
2) if you answer No, please state which nation you think is better...nothin else.
3) if you input any other information your vote WILL NOT be counted

NO.

I think England is more civilized in many ways that count.

There is no black and white.

What constitutes greatness?

Do you mistake it for power or arrogance?

This is akin to the question "Do you still beat your wife" yes or no, no other answer will be accepted.

It's not a pole it's a setup as are many poles.

Are you sure camodog isn't twelve in disguise? Only twelve would start such a juvenile pole.

oh I get it, after the vast majority of us say "yes", camodog will come back in and hit us with some rationale like "well if you think this is the best country in the world, why don't you shut up and support the President??"...or even worse "If you don't like it here, why don't you leave??"

I abstain.

I disagree, profe

It just shows how hard it is for many on the left to even be able to say how great their own country is. Impossible, for some.

Warts and all.....we ARE the greatest country in the world.

I don't have a problem saying yes to the question linda. As you may know, I'm a dual citizen. This gives me a somewhat unique perspective. I can choose to live here or move quite easily if I decide to do that....what I have a problem with is the question itself. If we all say yes, so what? If some of us say no, so what? Your quote above affirms my original point. The purpose of this silly poll is not to get a sense of what the members here feel about the US, it's to take political cheap shots.

Perhaps I must expand.

What constitutes greatness. Is it military power. Is it the advanced healthcare given it's citizens? Is it the freedoms granted. Is it the untainted electoral process? Is it the seperation of Church and State. Is it the lack of sexism, racism and love the population has for each other. Is it the equal rights given all citizens.

A society is judged by it's treatment of it's weakest members. Those who cannot defend themselves.

This poll is a joke.

I agree with what profe51 said and I abstain also.

For some of us it's not a simple yes or no answer.

This poll was set up by someone who clearly does not think outside the box.

The automatic YES responses are by people who seem to think only one way too. But that doesn't surprise me at all as it's been obvious to me for awhile that they've never had to view things from outside their own tiny little part of the world.

davebraun...yes, there is black and white. There is a difference between good and evil. There is a difference between bravery and cowardness. There is a difference between love and hate. There is a difference between justice and injustice.

There is a difference between a people who celebrate the sawing off the head of another human being and a people who agonize over some evil terrorists who are mistreated in prison. While we hang our heads low because of this prison mistreatment they cheer when some innocent guy gets his head wacked off.

And there is a difference between a liberal and a conservative. Some of the posts on these boards make these difference very clear. Liberals use terms such as arrogance, imperialistic and greed to descibe America. Conservatives think of strength thru freedom, justice, honor and grace.

You compare the questions

"Do you consider the United States the greatest nation in the world?"

to

"Do you still beat your wife"

This statement really shines the light on how you must really feel.

If the two questions are akin you must think that "considering the United States the greatest nation in the world" is a negative just like "Beating your wife" is. Even so...for the questions to be akin the poll question would have to be changed to "Do you STILL consider the United States the greatest nation in the world?".

I use that analogy as there is no correct answer to either. If you say no to do you still beat your wife you have claimed to have beat her at some time in the past. If you say yes you are claiming to currently beat her.

Yes and no questions exclude any variance from the script provided by the questioner.

From your comments it looks like you believe the question is is the US greater than Iraq or some Middle Eastern nation.

Have you ever lived in India? Nepal? Bali? The UK?, France, Egypt? Germany, Norway, Italy? Spain? Gibraltar, Greece, Turkey, Israel? Canada? Mexico?

What are you basing your answer on? My guess is nothing but national chauvinism and what you are told by our media.

Sorry, I won't go for the bait.

Dave
I agree that it is a trick question, just not what you or others might think.

I think camodog knew that most liberals would be unable to answer the question with a simple "NO". I think he understands that you guys are incapable of true pride for America. He must also understand that liberals live in area a grey expanse where nothing is truely wrong or right.

It's an easy questioin. You either think it is the greatest or you don't. Your inablity to answer the question and your abilty to go on about arogance, sexism and racism proves a GREAT point about you and most other liberals.

Sorry dude, but you DID FALL FOR THE BAIT !!!

I made no claims. I wished the criteria that is to be used in the determination. All I have gotten is a bunch of right wing rhetorical fertilizer in return. I still pose the question. What is greatness.

Surely if you believe this to be a great nation, no the greatest nation you must have some idea as to what constitutes greatness. I am confused by your lack of words. You attack liberals etc. Is that the mark of greatness?

If you believe I took the bait I will point out that you swallowed the hook.

I have visited several other countries, some for great lengths of time and some for short visits of a week or so. MOST have good points and ALL have bad points.

With that in mind...

I say "YES"!!!

YES

The US the greatest in the world because of this country's freedom, opportunity, quality of life and history. Not to mention great wealth and military power.

Lefties say this is a sh!tty country, but we can't seem to stop the vast numbers of people who try to come here.

Lefties' favorite country was the Soviet Union which had to build a wall to keep it's people from escaping out. And the lefties are pissed that Ronald Reagan bankrupted their Workers Paradise.

Why is it that name calling seems to be the only level on which the right wing can function?

yep...there it is.
-----------------------

I'd bet even IF the question had been worded 'what do you most love/like about your country', the ultra-liberals here would have had a very hard time answering. They usually are only stating what they find WRONG with it, what they want changed, and how everything our elected leaders vote to do is wrong, in their opinion. They're always so positive. [not]

Where was that said, EAG? Or is that another one of those silly assumptions you pull out of your a..

or.... head?

With some of you it's only my way or the highway, right or wrong, black or white. What a silly way to view the world and life.

Once again, crawl out of your boxes, dig your heads out of the sand and look at the big picture.
