From CNN.com

A president's passing could mean boost for Bush
Americans who see similarities between presidents Reagan and Bush may help the current president's standing in the polls.

This week in the Inside Edge, how President Reagan's death may play into the election, why John Kerry might choose a fellow veteran as running mate and which Southern state to watch this summer.

A Reagan rally
Expect a troika of recent events to lift President Bush's stagnant poll numbers.

First, Iraq has been moved out of the news headlines by a variety of factors, including the start of summer, Iraq fatigue among many readers, and the anniversary of D-Day.

Second, with more than 1 million new jobs created this year, more Americans are beginning to feel optimistic about an improving economy -- even with high gas prices and a net loss of jobs over the last three years.

The first two factors alone probably would have helped to stabilize President Bush's poll numbers. But as June turns into July, expect Bush to benefit significantly from a third and unpredicted factor -- President Reagan's remembrance.

As sentimental Americans say goodbye to one tough-talking and hugely popular president, many of them (especially Independents and former Reagan Democrats) will likely associate the current president with the Reagan legacy. And this affiliation, spanning two generations and three presidents, will help push Bush higher in the polls.

So absent some catastrophic event, expect to hear upcoming stories about President Bush's new momentum and his new lead in the polls.

It's a sad commentary on the US voting population to assume it would equate Reagan with Bush. Politics aside, one was a man, the other is a marionette.

Great picture NTS. How sad I felt for Nancy. She spent 10 years with the man she loved taking care of him and I give her a lot of credit. It had to be hard on her to not beable to talk about their children and the accomplishments they have made.

profe- I agree with you. It is a shame. They are two different men.

Every President should be judged by not only what they've managed to accomplish, but also by what they've tried to accomplish. (I truly do not believe a President has the power many believe he does.) Each president in my memory, has had a vastly different set of problems. Some are "left over" from a previous administration, some are thrust upon them, and some are just bad judgement.

Who in the world would equate Bush with Reagan?

Reagan was a great speaker, Bush is an oratory nightmare
Reagan worked to avoid conflict, Bush seeks them out.
Reagan was respected even when disagreed with by the world, Bush is widely disliked and not trusted

If anything, in my opinion, Bush lost a valuable asset in Nancy Reagan who has gained a great deal of public respect and admiration over the past few years. Using her now will come across as opportunist and quite frankly tacky. Not sure that it ever would have happened though as she is vocally opposed to his position on stem cell research and was part of the effort to put a vote on the California ballot this year to grant 295 million dollars a year for 10 years in research funds to the cause on a statewide level, an amount that actually exceeds the current federal funding. Any efforts by her on Bushs behalf will surely bring this subject back to the forefront, where it can only do him harm.

Yes, fenix, yes.

If the way out there Democrats could field a leader, Dubya would be toast. Running against Jane Fonda Kerry he is a shoo-in.

Yes, it is quite a burden to be a caregiver when you are a multi-millionaire and have government and free services that the average American will never come close to.

The real heroes to feel sad for are the caregivers that have no money and no support and take care of loved ones day in and day out with no breaks and no relief.

I don't think Bush's people should get too excited about this golden opportunity(Reagan's death) to push their agenda.
There's far too many other issues that they have to face...like who in the White House committed treason by outing a CIA agent.
Why members of Osama Bin Ladin's family and other Saudis were flown out of this country when Americans in other countries couldn't fly home after 9/11.
Why government contracts are given to companies with addresses in Bermuda so they pay NO income tax.
Why Bush cut funding for "No Child Left Behind".
It just goes on and on and on......and these issues have NOT been forgotten.
Peace.

Raymond you are nothing but doom and gloom. No matter if she had caregivers or not she did not leave his side and abandon him. Every President gets the same service. I am sure Caroline Kennedy still has secret service. Maybe they are wealthy I will not begrudge them anything but they made their own money some inherit theirs.

Are you totally naive ? What does doom and gloom have to do with the facts of the situation ? Nancy Reagan "left his side" on any occaision she wanted to. With the resources she has she had it easy by comparision. There are thousands of caregivers that get absolutely no relief and can not go anywhere because they can not afford relief. Nancy Reagan traveled all she wanted to and had all kinds of help in the caregiving tasks.

Next you right wing nuts will be claiming that St. Nancy was changing his diapers and bathing him all by herself.

Reamond - come on, haven't you realized yet that reality has no room in Libras life. Hell, she even changes the meaning of polling data to fit her opinion.

Libra, love ya kid, but this is my philosophy.....I NEVER feel sorry for ANYBODY, male or female, who never has to touch a toilet brush.
Yes, their grief is real but so many others have to bear the grief AND clean the bathroom, cook meals, go to work (some people get a whole THREE days off with pay for a spouse), and keep right on going. Nancy Reagan had a cushy life and had 51 years with Ronnie and I'll save my sympathy for the less fortunate.
