What is the true number of UNEMPLOYED in the U.S. Our current government says a little over 6 million. This government NO LONGER counts people that have run out of unemployment benefits. This government also doesn't count the millions of young men and women who finished school this year and are looking for jobs. So TRUTHFULLY what is the TRUE number of unemployed in the U.S. I guess we will never know.

WE NEED TO OUTSOURCE GEO. BUSH AND HIS GOVERNMENT BEFORE ITS TO LATE.

Additionally there are the underemployed. MBA's driving cabs, engineers working outside their field for lower wages, others forced to work part time with no benefits.

On the other hand the top 1% was doing so poorly they were given large tax breaks to stimulate the economy (whose).

Large corporations given hefty subsidies and no bid contracts them subcontacting out to offshores to increase the bottom line.

years ago the American Bar Association pleaded with the universities not to crank out so many law students, but law school is a lucretive business, the major investment is a law library.

The unemployment figures also don't report those who still have a job but had to take pay cuts(while the execs got bonuses).

It doesn't take into consideration second and third shift workers who have their shift differential taken away for holidays, sick days and vacations!

I bet it didn't take into consideration the women who were screwed out of fair wages by Walmart or take into consideration that some companies force workers to do unpaid overtime.

It doesn't take into consideration wage freezes.

And what has the price of a microwave got to do with anything?

Easy.

JUNE 2004 UNEMPLOYED - 8,248,000

JANUARY 2001 UNEMPLOYED - 5,997,000

Since Bush took office the total number of unemployed has increased by 2,251,000 people.

TWO AND A QUARTER MILLION MORE AMERICANS UNEMPLOYED.

Doesn't matter why, doesn't matter where, this is George Bush's watch, these numbers are his.

Source: US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics

>Overall Most Requested Statistics>Civilian Unemployment>Retrieve Data

It doesn't matter how the Neocon gasbags spin it, these are the numbers.

2,200,000 MORE AMERICANS UNEMPLOYED THAN WHEN BUSH TOOK OFFICE.

A microwave USED TO BE a major appliance sale. If you were poor and living in a one-room flat, you were lucky if you could afford a hotplate. If they're importing them china or whereever and the prices are that cheap, the better makers are forced to lower their prices or suffer no sales, as well.

Thanks Bob, Good post but I bet neocons aren't going to show up on this thread unless it's with some very juvenile insults.
This is a slam dunk issue and they know it.

And, it's the most important issue.....a person's interests in things like the war, Election Reform, the deficit, the environment or any thing else quickly dims in comparison to not having a job! I hope everybody who doesn't have a job knows who did this to them and votes accordingly.

You know I have to wonder though how many illegal aliens have arrived in that same time period. What does illegal aliens have to do with unemployment numbers you might ask. It's simple, the illegals are taking jobs away from legal US citizens.

Another thing, I just got back from the laundromat and while I was there I was talking with the owner about this very subject. He told me that what some don't seem to realise is that as time goes by more and more women are entering the workplace along with students getting out of school and all the illegal aliens that are arriving. He told me that 30 years ago most women didn't work and that also goes for student children. I'm all for women, students and anyone else finding and working a job but the illegals are really hurting the job outlook. As he put it, there just isn't a job for everyone and I agree.

And still another thing that is hurting the economy and has an effect on jobs and growth is all the money that the illegals are sending out of the country that isn't spent here, thus creating jobs in whatever country the money is being sent to but not here.

Everyone here remembers the enormous amount of dot com businesses that sprang up before Bush took office and after Bush took office went belly-up. They went that way because the stock market self corrected itself as to the true value of these mostly bogus companies. Alot of people were put out of work when this happened and it's been slow to recover.

Anyone can throw out some numbers but to come up with possible reasons as to why those numbers are the way they are is another matter. Sitting there saying; Doesn't matter why, doesn't matter where, this is George Bush's watch, these numbers are his. is just bs. Come up with a new line or at least some reasons why you say what you do.

Yellowstone,

How can you breathe with your head in there? You can obfuscate, you can speculate, you can cite all the observations you like of a learned laundromat operator but it still doesn't change the numbers.

Let me put this in a very simple way that even YOU and the other Kneejerk Neanderthals can understand....

If there were 2,200,000 FEWER people unemployed since George Bush took office would he be taking the bows for that?

If so, then he has to take responsibility for the 2,200,000 MORE. His watch, his responsibility....

.....and the attacks and name calling start but to offer up any speculations or ideas of your own other than to say His watch, his responsibility (which is just regurgitated BS) is something that you just can't do.

That's it I'm done here.

Ed to add; name calling

Yes, you are done here, running away like a little girl because you can't refute what US GOVERNMENT Numbers show.

When last month the administration was crowing about the new jobs created (numbers since revised downwards) no discussion was tolerated by the KNs about the caliber of the jobs or of the numbers I have cited here- only X many new jobs was important.

George Bush is the President of the United States - he came into office at a time of rising unemployment. As President, with control of both houses of Congress, all the Administrative
Branch offices, the federal budget and the cooperation of the Fed (which tries really hard no matter WHO is in power) he has failed to keep unemployment from rising.

Now I am certainly not as smart as the average laundromat owner, a man who gathers lint and rolls coins for a living, but it seems to me the man in charge has to take
responsibility.

Bush's watch, Bush's numbers, Bush's responsibility.

edited to correct the spelling of "tolerated". There are only two ways to spell most words, correctly or incorrectly. It is not up to individual interpretation despite the belief of some of the KN posters here.

You know what, I think ol Twelvepole was right when he said; They accuse us on the right of name calling...

However when they are unable to influence you, they resort to the actual name calling

I just had to go and find out for myself and you know what else, I didn't really do laundry today. I just thought I would throw that in to see what sort of an insult you could make out of it. True to form you responded just the way that I expected.

I did learn something from all this and that is that most of you Democrats just aren't worth talking to.

Now I'm done here.

After reading all the replies I say again, I guess we will never know the true unemployment numbers. Nobody keeps track. In the interest of knowing how big the unemployment problem really is, and in the interest of the unemployed U.S. worker, it would seem like someone in this government would keep track. After all isn't it their job to know whats going on in the U.S.? Isn't that what they get paid for? How can they fix the unemployment problem when they don't even know how big the problem is?

You democrats get upset when a republican wins an election.

If you weren't standing in the unemployment lines, or welfare lines,or just waiting for someone to plan your lives for you.

You could take the time to VOTE!

I don't pay as much, maybe as A.T.&T.

But I pay as high as 3 times the minimum wage to start!

But:

If you work for me you may sweat, and get your hands dirty!

That always makes it more appealing to stand in line and fill out papers and wait for a check to come in the mail!
