A year has gone by already since the last report and Norway comes out on top again.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Norway, Sweden, Australia, Canada and the Netherlands ranked as the best five countries to live in but Africa's quality of life plummeted because of AIDS said a U.N. report released on Thursday.

The United States was ranked in eighth place, a drop of one position from 2003 in the report that rates not only per-capita income but also educational levels, health care and life expectancy in measuring a nation's well-being.

The Human Development Index, prepared by the U.N. Development Program, is issued annually and includes every country for which statistics are available.

Norway has led the list for the past four years.

Aside from the overall index, the report produces indicators on women's equality, income inequality and consumption, poverty and other categories that countries use to measure development. In Canada, for example, the index has been used in advertisements to attract business.

The industrialized nations as usual were in the top 20, their ratings close to one another. Belgium was in sixth place, followed by Iceland, the United States, Japan, Ireland, Switzerland, Britain, Finland, Austria, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, New Zealand, Germany and Spain.

The 285-page report can be found on the Web at http://hdr.undp.org

I was in Paris a few years ago, food is excellent and not expensive,it is comparable with what we pay when we eat out here, the only differnce is their portion is smaller and tastes better,of course it is all a la carte.

-sig file -------we eat to live, not live to eat.

Maybe next time an arrogant American beats on his chest and says the chant "America, the greatest country in the world"....
they should stop and think that other countries just may not agree....and just chanting it will not make it true.

Electing a president that will address these issues may help to put us BACK in the right direction.

prepared by the U.N. Development Program

Says all I need to know about it... UN is not an Organization I would take their word for on anything...

But look at the top five and see how socialist they really are... the US doesn't want that system...

They've also just posted a "how healthy is your state to live in list:"

Excerpt:
How healthy is your state? You'll find the healthiest U.S. citizens in New Hampshire, Minnesota and Utah. The least healthy states are in the South, led by Mississippi.

Here's a link if any body's interested:

(You have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the states listed in rank chart.)

Twelve, Why not ?
You pay for the rich to get the biggest tax cut in history.
You pay all the taxes for corporations whose address is off-shore and they pay no income tax.
You pay Haliburton.
You pay for a lot of things that aren't health care.

Oh, I forgot , you hate anyone less fortunate than you and worship the rich.
Yup, don't help anyone but yourself, that's the "christian way(?)

Bigpeepa, Twelve isn't that stupid - he's planned ahead. Because so many women are after him, he got his tubes tied so none of them could trap him into marrying them. (He's caught a few lying women that have tried!) This guarantees his immunity from leeches (women) but on the plus side, it also insures the country of no more Twelvepole off-spring.

LOL! The UN judged Norway as the best country to to live in? I bet Norway can't stop the avalanche of immigrants. Is this the same UN that put Libya in charge of human rights?

kraft,

You think Twelve is interested in women? I've not read anything he's posted that indicates that- only that he hates gays.

Ebayauctionguy, Norway probably is smart enough to CONTROL the influx of immigrants like many other countries that are smarter than the U.S.!

Bob, women are nothing more than sneaky b*tches that want to trap Twelve into impregnating them. Surely as a man, you've experienced the same thing. American women are the sneakiest so he likes to slip up to Canada where he can bang Canadian married women, no questions asked. Don't all real men act this way?

Yep, sad but true.

That'll be the same UN kerry, if elected, wants to hand our decision making powers over to - taking away our Nation's right to take any military action WE deem necessary to protect this Nation.

Scary....very scary.
