If Martha Stewart was sent to prison for five months, for supposedly lying to the government, how much time should George W. Bush and Dick Cheney do for lying to the people about the war in Iraq?

None, they have never lied

They told the truth as was presented to them...

That is not lying.

Prison time would be to easy for them. I would suggest getting tortured, sentence them to death in the Texas electric chair or send them to Gitmo for 30 years without the possibility of them seeing a lawyer.

Logan'sdad, you are just an old softie! I had much worse planned!

It would be interesting to see if they get off on BEING tortured as much as they enjoy WATCHING others being tortured.

But remember that brain trust, twelve, said they never lied so it must be true.

Gee, I wonder who was in charge of the departments that supplied the "incorrect" information that was given to them. It seems to me that we only have one president in this country, and that he is ultimately in charge of these departments and the people running them. Would it be fair to say that Bush is asleep at the switch?

Maybe they could get sentenced to "Old Sparky", the faulty Florida electric chair. Maybe Jeb Bush could pull the switch.

Would it be fair to say that Bush is asleep at the switch?

The most perfect and perfectly appropriate sentence would be an extra long tour of duty in Iraq. They could finally serve their country like they expect others to serve.

'Course Bush would probably head right for Saddam's vacated hole
wimpering and crying for his mommy, his bottle and his pipe, not necessarily in that order.

When Karla Faye Tucker was put to death by Bush, he snickered and mimicked her, saying "please don't kill me" with pursed lips. I'd like to see him lie on the injection table with the onlookers doing the same to him. I wouldn't want him to be killed but I'd like to see how well he would handle the situation.

P.S. Good to see you again Yeager!

They should be held at Abu Graib, where the innocent Iraqi's who were tortured can shove lightsticks up their *sses, and take photos of them or do whatever else they want. Only then, would I feel that justice has been done. Oh, I forgot, Dick sticks it to Bush and Colin on a regular basis.

When Karla Faye Tucker was put to death by Bush,

What do you know about it? Were you there? FYI Gov Bush was 165 miles west of Huntsville TX when Karla was legally executed by the State of Texas. She died in a better manner than the guy she killed by planting a pick ax in his chest.

Bush doesn't seem to care who is executed. I just hope they can forgive Bush when he is declared mentally retarded.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- Despite pleas from death penalty opponents around the world, Texas on Wednesday executed a man said to be mentally retarded.

Oliver David Cruz was the second man to die by lethal injection Wednesday night in back-to-back executions.

Cruz, 33, was sentenced to death for the 1988 abduction, rape and fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old woman stationed at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio.

"I want to apologize to the family of Kelly Elizabeth Donovan," Cruz said from the death chamber, sobbing. "I'm sorry for what I did to her 12 years ago. I wish they could forgive me for what I did."

"I'm sorry for hurting my family, I'm sorry for hurting my friends. Please forgive me," Cruz said.

Thirty minutes earlier, Brian Keith Roberson was put to death for the 1986 stabbing deaths of an elderly couple who lived across the street from him in Dallas.

Roberson, 36, smiling from the execution chamber, lashed out at family members and police officers who testified against him at his trial. "You ain't got what you want," he said.

Roberson and Cruz were the 27th and 28th inmates put to death this year in Texas, the nation's leader in executions.

The U.S. Supreme Court voted 7-2 Wednesday morning to allow the execution of Roberson. The justices also voted 6-3 to deny Cruz's request for a reprieve and to deny a separate appeal.

The American Bar Association urged Texas Gov. George W. Bush to block Cruz's execution because he has been diagnosed as being mentally retarded with an IQ of 63. Officials from France, Sweden and the European Union also wrote letters supporting Cruz.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Parole voted 18-0 this week against granting clemency to either Roberson or Cruz.

Bush could not block the executions without, under state law, the board's approval but he had the authority to grant one-time 30-day reprieves. However, because the Republican presidential candidate is campaigning in California, the decisions were left to Lt. Gov. Rick Perry.

Cruz's attorney, Jeff Pokorak, argued that a jury was not given enough information about his client's lifelong mental impairment. Pokorak said Cruz could not read and had trouble understanding his Miranda warning when questioned by police.

Cruz took special education classes when he was in school, and had to repeat the seventh grade three times.

District Attorney Susan D. Reed said jurors heard testimony about Cruz's low IQ and still sentenced him to death.

Later tests, while Cruz was in prison, showed he had an IQ of 83, Reed said.

Texas is one of 25 states that allow the execution of retarded killers, while 13 other states have prohibited the practice. A bill outlawing the execution of someone whose IQ is below 65 stalled in the Texas Legislature this year, but may be reintroduced in the 2001 session.

A median IQ is 100 and an IQ under 70 is considered to be in the mentally retarded range, according to Deborah Spitalnik, chair of the President's Committee on Mental Retardation.

"People who test right around 70 are often considered in the court as not mentally retarded," Spitalnik said.

To diagnose someone as mentally retarded, the person must also demonstrate limitations in their ability to function in everyday life before they are 18 years old, Spitalnik said.

Cruz blamed alcohol and drugs for the attack that led to his conviction. He said he drank several bottles of liquor and took LSD when he and Jerry Kemplin abducted 24-year-old senior airman Kelly Donovan. Cruz raped her and then stabbed her to death.

"I made a mistake. I don't blame nobody. I take full responsibility," Cruz said in an interview. "There's nothing I could do or say to bring the person back. There's nothing I could do or say to her family about how sorry I am."

Kemplin, who is not retarded, was charged with capital murder but agreed to testify against Cruz as part of a plea agreement. He was sentenced to 65 years in prison and could be eligible for release after serving one-fourth of his sentence.

Wednesday night's executions were the first multiple executions in Texas since 1997. The execution dates were set by separate local judges, so the timing is a coincidence, said Heather Browne, a spokeswoman for the Texas Attorney General's office.

In Roberson's case, fingerprints linked him to the killings of James Louis Boots, 79, and his wife, Lillian. The electrician later confessed to stabbing the couple to death and stealing jewelry from their home.

"I wasn't in a solid frame of mind," the electrician said, blaming the attack on his use of drugs and alcohol. "I was just juiced up."

Randy Fleming, a grandson of Roberson's victims, said afterward that the execution had brought some closure.

But Roberson's twin brother, Bruce, who also watched the execution, was critical of Bush. "When God comes, he's going to kick ass and take names," Bruce Roberson said.

Wednesday's executions also outraged death penalty opponents, who said they showed that Bush was not the "compassionate conservative" he claims to be.

"Bush's embrace of the machinery of death indicates he is morally unfit to be president of the U.S. or even governor of Texas," Dave Atwood, head of the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, said in a statement.

Texas has carried out 227 executions since 1982, when the state resumed capital punishment, six years after the Supreme Court lifted a national ban.

Of them, 140 have been performed under Bush, who has commuted one death sentence to life imprisonment and granted one 30-day reprieve.

Four more years???? Things aren't looking that good for George and Dick. Today, WXYX TV in Detroit aired a news story of the Black voting block. In Detroit, the population according to the 2000 census is 951,270, and of that number the black population is 81.55 percent. The news story indicated 85% of black Detroiters are voting for Kerry, and 0 (zero) percent are voting for Bush. No typo there, the number is zero. Now if that is an indicator of other large cities in the country, Bush might have a problem gaining the advantage of the urban areas.

Thanks KD!

Yeager, I'm not a Bible thumper. Just like Hebrews 13:8, I quote it because it is one of my favorite Naval communiques from WW II. Right up there with 'Where are you? The whole world wants to know.' For those that aren't familiar with this last one, the second line was added by the radio operator under orders to put gibberish in his messages. It effected the placing of a small battle group and the lives of many sailors. Whereas 'Hebrews 13:8' was a comment on the boredom of same old, same old.
