This is one of the funniest things that I have ever heard of. You might remember the Sit Ins, that were made popular by college students in the 60's and the 70's. Where they would sit and continue to sit until their objectives were recognized.

Well, a Sip In was used by a group called Queer Nation toward Cracker Barrel restaurants when the restaurant chain fired several employees in 1991 for being gay. They sited the employees didn't maintain the family standard of the restaurant.

So, here is how the Sip In went. Cracker Barrel sells primarily home cooked style meals. They might cost from maybe 5.00 to 9.00 each. They also sell things like coffee for maybe a 1.25. The Sippers (mostly gay) went there in large numbers and ordered ONLY COFFEE. Then sat there and sipped and sipped and monopolized the tables of the whole restaurant for days. Other customers couldn't be served and the restaurant wasn't selling higher priced menu items, only coffee. This cut into the bottom line of profits.

How did Cracker Barrel respond? After ABC News 20/20 did a story on the Sip In, they changed their attitude towards gay employees by creating a policy of equal treatment of gay employees. "Old Country Stores and Logan's Roadhouse restaurants, has voted unanimously to add sexual orientation to the company's non-discrimination policy."

Now however, they're now under boycott by the American Family Association because of their change.

Any thought on this topic.

This includes you 12, but try to make some sort of sense, OK?

Thanks yeager for the post. I was not aware Logan's Roadhouse was owned Cracker Barrel. Just one more place that will not get my business.

logan,

They were taken off this list of places to avoid. They now recognize gay rights of the employees.

The American Family Association is now boycotting Cracker Barrel and Logans because they have done this.

The American Family Association has a very misleading name. They don't believe in civil rights so they are as anti-American as you can get.

Exactly!

American families and their members want and need civil rights.

Yes I am aware but I still will not eat at either restaurant. Kinda like I will not drink any Coors product for their homophobia.

Logansdad: Have you heard about the new all gay network called LOGO? It is set to air in February. Produced by MTV. I was reading about it yesterday. Should be interesting if nothing else!

Neroter, I did hear about a gay cable channel a couple of months ago. It should be interesting to see what sort of shows are going to be aired.

logans, the article I read said they are going to air movies like Philadelphia and some others I am not familiar with. And also try to show gays as living a normal life just like straights do. There was some other mention of other type shows, and I am sure some of its going to be fun, but I already threw out the paper and I dont remember what the rest of it said. I did note that the producers said they well expect controversy about it when it debuts too.

I like Cracker Barrel, will continue to patronize them, just because you say you will hire a homosexual, doesn't mean you actually will...

twelve,

Maybe Cracker Barrel will have an in house TV with LOGO on it. You can watch it when you sip your coffee.
