What Do You Know About The Separation of State and Church? It really is quite interesting. Take a few minutes and see how you do. I know that some here will fail miserably.

I guessed most and scored 8/21.

6 - 9: Did you attend a parochial school? Try test again.

I wonder how many are 'better Americans' than me.

I know that the Constitution of the United States has a major focus on the separation of State and church. I was surprised with my score of 13. I thought that I would have gotten better than that. However, I must say, I AM NOT A BIBLE THUMPER!

hey 12,

How was your weekend vacation? I know it wasn't as long as your recent 30 special.

How do you like my new sig line? I hope you do.

I got 14. The test is obviously trying to make a point about something, but I can't figure out what.

I think it is trying to tell us we don't know our constitution good enough. Now I only got 11 but I am going to factor in my age and give myself 14. The older I get the more I need reminders and I think this is a reminder that I need to read the constitution before they change it.

I got a 15.

One 'trick' question is when it's asked if the word "God" is mentioned.....the correct answer, according to them is NO.

But it does mention the word 'Creator', which to most means the same as "God". And 'Creator' isn't given as a choice.

18 of 21 here.

But I could have swore that I read somewhere that the "In god we trust" motto was put on money during the Civil War.

The other two missed were the religious affiliation of the plaintiffs in USSC cases.

That was fun! I got 15 out of 21. It would have been 19, but I overthought and changed 4 answers to wrong ones! Should've remembered the SAT's and gone with my first instinct. It sure has been a while!

You did....when I posted all those links proving we were founded as a Christian nation.

Guess this 'test' hasn't read about that part of our coinage history.

In God We Trust was added to coins in 1864...

It was added to a new 2 cent coin in 1864. It has only been since 1938 that it has appeared on ALL U.S. coinage. Prior to that time it appeared sporadically on some, and not at all on others. The longest continuous run of the motto has been on gold, half and silver dollars, consistent since 1908.

Where some confusion comes in, the motto was only adopted as the official motto of the US in 1956, but this has nothing to do with it's use on coins, and even less to do with the notion that the U.S. was founded as "a Christian nation".

Linda says,

You did....when I posted all those links proving we were founded as a Christian nation.

Since you mention a "Christian" nation, are you saying it is OK to continue in the bigotry of this practice. That is, recognizing the "Christian" people of this nation and not other faiths?

Actually, the majority of the population may have been Christian when this country was founded, BUT there was no official recognized religion. We were founded as a country that was free to practice any religion, not the Christian religion.

What's the purpose of insisting this is a "christian" country?

"Christians murder, rape, commit adultery, molest children, steal, blackmail, drive drunk, hate, cheat on their taxes, beat up their spouses, don't pay their bills, get drunk, start wars, enjoy torture just as much as anyone else.

What makes them so "special"?

crowfarm,

Have you ever noticed how "Christians" react when one of their flock does something wrong? It's usually something like..... he/she is a really good person and I am sure that God will forgive them for this indiscretion. After all we all make mistakes. They always try to use some sort of rationale for the act.

However, when a group of any kind strays one inch form the bible's teachings they go nuts.

Do ALL Christians murder, rape, commit adultery, molest children, steal, blackmail, drive drunk, cheat on their taxes, beat up their spouses, don't pay their bills, enjoy torture, etc., etc., etc?

No...for the most part, most people, regardless of whatever religious affiliation they hold dear, do NONE of these heinous things. Regardless of religious, political or cultural affiliation.

I don't do ANY of these things and I'm sure ALL of the people who post here don't. Except maybe the not paying bills and cheating on taxes.

Christians aren't perfect....just forgiven.

I think what CrowfarM was saying is that people of the christian faith do these things. Not all christians, but those who are of no other faith that is, non jewish, non buddist, non wicca, etc who would identify themselves as being of the christian faith commit these deeds.

I think that it would be unfair for any group to be labeled by the action of one.

I also, wonder why and how christians believe they are forgiven when they do a misdeed. How many times can a christian drive drunk, or steal before they run out of "forgiveness tickets". Would it be once, twice, five as many as a christian would need in their lifetime.

Also, who decides when they have used up the limit? One of the many wonders of religion.
