WE ARE OFFICIALLY RENAMING "ELECTIONS 2004" TO "CHUMP CHECK 2004"

This is no fun. Honestly, it’s not supposed to be this way.

What we as Moderate Independents are supposed to be having in the run up to a Presidential election is a fun and open discussion about the proposed policies of each side, debating which from each campaign is the best and which candidate might be better for the nation.

But in their continued quest to be the biggest threat to democracy since communism, the Bush/Limbaugh Republicans have – intentionally – destroyed free, fair, and useful discourse. With their shouting, squelching, constant pre-programmed lying, they have made sure there is no conversation that is based on facts and that opposing views are not heard together. You talk in your room, we’ll lie over here.

And so – since this is who the Republicans have chosen to go with – we are left with not an election but a chump check.

The economy is horrible – simple fact, as well explained repeatedly by our Ben Terton in several articles. Oil is through the roof. You can argue environmental this or that but quite simply with the Bush/Limbaughians being such amoral constant liars out to attack American values like free and fair discourse, innocent until proven guilty, and standing against torture, policies become irrelevant.

Indeed, even if you still wanted to try to discuss policy, by lying constantly about their policies – i.e. calling something a “Clear Skies act” that kills 18,000 Americans a year with dirty air – they have made useful conversation about policy impossible.

And so all we are left with is a chump check. You’ve lost your job or your raises have become minimal if not non-existent. You’ve been paying literally twice as much for gas – or more. The nation is in massive debt. The air is dirtier, the fish have more mercury.

The only thing some people consider a “strong point,” as the non-M/I media likes to call it, for the President is 9/11 and the “War on Terror.” And yet look at the President’s foreign policy record using the facts, not the lying hateful rhetoric or un-American warmongering/hate-those-opposed nonsense. Here is a simple summary:

- Let 9/11 occur on his watch

- Trumpeted entirely flawed intelligence

- Launched a war against a weak enemy and still has not been successful yet

- Losing our grip on Cold War Victory by letting Putin do anything he pleases unchallenged, showing clearly no strength to stand up to him

- Done nothing to make the North Korea or Iran nuclear situations better

- Done nothing to help the Israeli/Palestinian situation

- Almost picked a war with China over a minor spy plane incident

- Let Osama and the rest of al Qaeda’s leadership get away from Tora Bora in Afghanistan – when we had them surrounded – by employing dumb policy of having fat Afghan warlords finish him off instead of American troops. (Fat Afghan warlord took payoff from Osama and let him and his people go – see ABC Nightline documentary from a year or so ago if you missed the film footage of all this.)

- Has fought such an inept war in Iraq strategically that Osama was able to blow the entire Spanish contingent out of Iraq with just a few bombs in a single day and was able to blow the Philippine contingent out by taking a single hostage

- Has done nothing about securing leftover Soviet nukes and other WMD’s that a billion or two of funding could have had all rounded up by now. Instead, two hundred billion dollars were poured into an unarmed Iraq and all the while these nukes and WMD’s sit behind cheap padlocks and are available to the highest bidder.

- Has caused the world’s oil situation/prices to spiral out of control by creating instability. (Had run against Gore saying it was Gore’s weak posture that had oil going up a little – so with oil far up above that now, it must mean, by Bush’s own test, that Bush is showing a far weaker hand.)

- Created a gulf of mistrust and fear around the world that has caused countless nations – like Russia and Iran - to feel they must up their nuclear capabilities to guard against attack by us. This damage is not fixable at any point in the near term because even if a different President is elected, the world will realize that in just four years another person like Bush – or worse – can be elected.

- While now he tries to claim the turmoil in Iraq is just routine and was to be expected, President Bush and his advisors were the only people on the planet dumb enough to not expect it to begin with, arguing against all those who said it would be like this, thinking, honestly, that we would be greeted with “flowers.”

This is the what they are calling the President’s “strong point,” the only thing voters have to cling to if they wish to support him.

Other than the lies.

This is not an election. The reality is clear. Whether Kerry rates a 10 out of 10 or a 2 out of 10, there is no debate that he is a better choice for America. For one thing, he tells the truth at least some of the time. For another, he believes in at least some American values.

The choice is simple and obvious to anyone who is not a complete brainless dult or so consumed with anti-democracy passion and hateful bigotry that they refuse to see the obvious. This is not an election, this is a chump check.

It is a simple test. How many people are gonna be chumps again? You believed his lies the first time, how many will be dumb enough to buy them again? How many will vote for the President because they think he’s their “buddy,” allowing yourselves to be played like two-bit floozies who really believe it when he says he loves you? How many will continue to sell their nation into debt, dishonor, and dictatorship-like rule because George and Rush make them feel cooler if they do? How many Americans will remain too ballless to stand up and call a simple, obvious liar a simple, obvious liar?

I tell you, we still get e-mails from people furious because we keep reporting that no WMD’s have been found. Why do we ignore all the reports about all of the WMD’s that have been found, they ask?

These people are not psychotic – this is what the lying Bush/Limbaugh right keeps telling them. They have no care for reality or facts. They lie constantly, compulsively, and without conscience.

So for the rest of this cycle, in the run up to November 2, 2004, we, as we always do at The Moderate Independent, will simply call things what they are. The rest of the media can pretend there is some sort of election going on, some sort of debate, some sort of actual choice out there.

But even we independents, who love to consider people of any label or persuasion, realize that this time that is not the case. There is not an election coming up, there is a chump check for the nation. Will enough Americans be chumps to buy – again – obvious lies, selling out their nation due to their insecurity, stupidity, or gullibility?

This is the only question this election: will the majority of Americans be chumps, or will they be men and women?

One additional note: McCain, we love you, but your credibility is seriously on the line as you stand side by side with the man who hit you so below the belt last election that you must still be singing soprano. Even as you see them pulling the same crap with Kerry, you still stand beside the President for purely political reasons, allowing yourself to be used for the re-election of a man who acted so dishonorably in knocking you out of competition last time. If you want to remain trusted as the “straight talk express,” it’s time for you to stop selling out your integrity for political purposes and take a stand against the lowly, amoral Bush/Limbaugh hate-lie-and-smear Republicans. We need you to do this so we can have the Republican Party back as a viable option.

C'mon old man.. that was a joke..

I don't have hatred for Bush. I do however hate what he has done to our country these past four years.
In fact it scares the hell out of me to think what another four years with him as our leader, will bring.
Along with millions of other Americans, I believe if Bush is re-elected he will continue to lead our nation into debt, and dishonor, with a dictatorship-like rule.

I don't waste my time "hating" anyone.. that would serve no purpose.
