I heard a small amount of this story on CNN the other day, and looked and looked for it. I finally found it. What a two faced bigot we have here!!!

GOP Rep. Who Voted For Anti-Gay Amendment Is Outed & Quits House Race

by Bob Lewis
Associated Press

Posted: August 31, 2004 12:01 am ET

(Richmond, Virginia) U.S. Rep. Edward L. Schrock abruptly announced Monday that he will not seek a third term in Congress, citing unspecified allegations that have "called into question" his ability to serve.

Although Schrock did not comment on why he decided against seeking re-election, several Virginia Republicans said allegations that Schrock is gay have roiled the party since they were posted on a Web log Aug. 19.

Schrock, 63, is married and a conservative who voted for legislation to ban gay marriages.

Schrock said in a five-paragraph statement that allegations have surfaced in recent weeks "that have called into question my ability to represent the citizens of Virginia's Second Congressional District."

He continued: "Therefore, as of today, I am stepping aside and will no longer be the Republican nominee for Congress."

The release said Schrock would not comment further on his decision, nor did he comment specifically on the allegations.

The decision shocked Republicans, who must scramble to field another candidate by Friday to oppose Democrat David B. Ashe in the district that includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach and the rural Eastern Shore.

"We're shocked and stunned more than saddened right now," said Virginia Beach Republican Chairman Mark McKinney, who said Schrock retired because of the accusation posted on blogactive.com. "What I read on the Internet was a complete and utter surprise to me."

The author of the blog, Michael Rogers, said his site is aimed at exposing "hypocrites" in Congress.

U.S. Rep. Tom Davis, a fellow Virginia Republican, said Schrock had indicated he was considering retiring when he spoke to him last week.

"He's a very intense guy, and he's got a lot of things going on in his life. I'm really sorry to see him leave."

Delegates at the Republican National Convention in New York were surprised by the news.

"I am totally, totally shocked and disappointed. Whatever it is, he should of stayed in and fought it. He's a good Republican," said delegate Juanita Bailey of Newport News.

Ashe was also shocked by the move.

"Wow. I had not heard that. That's really something," Ashe told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. He said his thoughts were with Schrock and his family and he thanked the congressman for his career of service.

Schrock, a retired career Navy officer and Vietnam veteran, was elected in 2000 to the seat in a district that is home to the world's largest naval base.

In January 2001, Schrock was elected president of the Republican House freshman class and landed a seat on the House Armed Services Committee, a plum for any member of Congress from southeastern Virginia.

With Schrock out, attention turned to Republican state legislators as possible replacements for him on the Nov. 2 ballot. The 2nd District Republican Committee will choose a nominee at a meeting Tuesday, three days ahead of a deadline for qualifying a nominee, said state GOP spokesman Shawn M. Smith.

"I've got a lot of thought I have to give to this tonight and tomorrow," said state Sen. Kenneth W. Stolle, R-Virginia Beach, who has expressed interest in the post.

Mike Rogers, of Blogactive.com is the blogger who is promising more embarrassing revelations. The site links to an audio recording that it claims is Schrock calling into the MegaMates/Megaphone Line, a telephone service that men can use to meet other men.

Well, as I recall our friend Linda said James McGreevy was living a lie. Is this guy too, Linda?

But Michael Rogers, the Washington D.C.-based gay activist and operator of blogactive.com, on Aug. 19 alleged that Schrock, a married father, "made a habit" of seeking male sex partners on the MegaMates/MegaPhone line, which allows men to place voice mail personal ads and respond to those ads to meet one another. In a follow-up posting Aug. 30, Rogers included an alleged tape of one of Schrock's ads. On the recording an unnamed male, self-described as tanned, buff, 6'4 and 200 pounds, seeks another man "in very good shape" with whom the caller could engage in oral sex.

Rogers' Aug. 19 posting also calls attention to Schrock's co-sponsorship of the Federal Marriage Amendment and his recent vote in favor of the Marriage Protection Act, a measure that would strip federal courts of jurisdiction in cases relating to marriage laws. The proposal was passed by the House in July. Rogers also notes that Schrock received a 92 percent rating for his congressional votes in Christian Coalition's 2003 voting guide, while he earned a zero on the Human Rights Campaign 2001-2002 Congressional Scorecard.

As a candidate in 2000, Schrock, a career Navy officer and Vietnam veteran, also opposed allowing gay people to serve in the armed forces, according to the Virginian-Pilot newspaper. What a hypocrite!

Schrock represents a politically conservative district in the Virginia Beach area that includes Regent University, founded by anti-gay religious conservative Pat Robertson. The allegations against Schrock are the latest in a wave of congressional outings - most of which until now have involved aides to conservative lawmakers - that Rogers has launched in recent months in an effort to expose what he calls the hypocrisy of lawmakers who support the Federal Marriage Amendment. The outings have been condemned by GLBT political organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign, the Log Cabin Republicans and the GLASS Caucus, an organization of gay and allied Senate staffers.

Rogers, however, is undaunted by the criticism. "I can assure you that this is the first of many to come," he said.

Rep. Ed Schrock is a two-term Republican congressman from Virginia's Second District. The National Journal ties him as the second most conservative person in all of Congress in 2003, behind only Dennis Hastert. This isn't necessarily a turn-off in his district, which includes Virginia Beach, home of Pat Robertson, as well as Hampton Roads, home of 300,000 active-duty military and veterans. A strong family man with a wife and kids, Schrock was a co-sponsor of the Federal Marriage Amendment and opposes any possible rights for gay people, including non-discrimination in employment.

The problem is, his constituents may soon discriminate against his employment, as Schrock also seeks out gay sex on telephone dating services, and gay activists are about to release the tapes.

Now, the last time I knew of it, the AP was a well respected world wide news agency, and NOT a Gay news agency. Is that proof enough. I saw if first on CNN. They are not Gay owned either. Right?

Twelve,

I want to set your mind at ease and PROVE to you that your GOP Conservative is GAY, YES GAY!!!

So, to allow you and your mother's mind to rest and face a bit of reality, I have provided a link to the Tampa Bay On line Paper. So, with this, you and mommy can click on it and read it for yourselves. I haven't don't anything to edit it. Now you can face the real facts.

Also, he made the case for Gay Americans in the fact he showed every one that the anti Gay Marriage movement is truly bigoted.

Here is a link to ABC News. Again, not Gay owned.

http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Politics/ap20040831_1932.html

Also, if he is not guilty as charged, why would he resign from his elected position? Maybe the embarrassment when the tapes finally "come out"? At least McGreevy had the guts to admit his mistake.

Nero - from what was posted here, the tapes are not of conversations but of voice mail ads left on the service. Safe bet they came from someone associated with the service or from someone that knew he was leaving the m,essages. Possibly someone that answered the ad and recognized him when they met. I'mn sure his votes did not make him a lot of friends in the gay community. Not hard to imagine that someone who had heard his hypocritical retoric might think that the truth should finally be known.

Who are they? I think that if you truly know this, then you should bring forth the necessary proof to have them removed. You could become a hero in American politics. Maybe Bush would start a new governmental department and you could be the director of it. It could be called the Department of Homosexual Suspicions.
