BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Former priest James Porter, a convicted pedophile who once lived in Minnesota and is now awaiting trial on the state's bid to keep him locked up indefinitely as a sexually dangerous person, got married in prison this week.
Porter married Anne Milner, a former nun he met more than 40 years ago while he was a young seminarian. The two met again three years ago after Milner wrote him a letter in prison.
Porter, 69, was convicted in 1993 of sexually abusing 28 children. Although he completed his prison sentence in January, Porter has remained in custody while state prosecutors seek to have him committed.
Last month, following a two-week hearing, a judge in Taunton Superior Court ruled that there is enough evidence to hold a trial on the state's request.
Milner attended every day of Porter's hearing, sporting a sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
Porter and Milner were married Monday in a [/b]civil ceremony before a justice of the peace at the Massachusetts Treatment Center for sex offenders in Bridgewater,[/b] where he is being held.
"It was the most beautiful day of my life," she told The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro. "It was the culmination of our hopes and dreams. It's a privilege, a blessing."
Although she said she hopes their marriage will help his case when he goes to trial, she insisted that's not why they got married.
She said Porter's crimes are in the past.
"From the first days of his incarceration, James Porter has had an insatiable desire to turn his life around," she said.
Porter was forced to leave the priesthood in 1974, but only after church leaders shuffled him among several parishes where he continued to sexually abuse children. He later resettled in Minnesota, got married and had four children.
Two sisters from Minnesota testified that Porter molested them in the 1980s, when they were baby sitters for Porter's children.
In Bemidji, Minn., more than 20 allegations of sexual abuse have been made against him from when he worked there as a priest in 1969-70. One of the alleged victims testified that he was raped by Porter an average of four times a week while he was an altar boy at St. Phillip's Catholic School in Bemidji.
Now, isn't it strange how a convicted pedophile has the right to get married and others don't. Also, he is a drain on the taxpayers. He has ruined lives too.

THAT'S A LIE. We can to as long as we live in Massachusetts.
Hey but why be gay and marry the person you really love, when you can lie about your sexuality, marry someone of the opposite sex, have kids, cheat behind your spouse's back and then divorce after 10 years.
That is more accepting to you isn't.
Better yet lets all get married to an Asian woman...."I Love you long time Joe". Isn't that what they keep saying to you Twelve??

Unreal! He started sexually abusing children in 1974... he was CONVICTED of abusing 28 children in 1993 and he only got 11 years????? That's less than 6 months per abuse. That's sick. If he wasn't a priest and was black, I wonder how much time he would've gotten? No wonder all the sickos join the priesthood.
