Although city officials and privacy advocates have objected in the past to police proposals to use cameras, Downing said he believes "people are ready to feel more secure in their communities. I think they are willing to give up a little bit … for more security."

From this article: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2026&ncid=2026&e=1&u=/latimests/20041028/ts_latimes/camerastokeepwatchinhollywood

Guess what they think you are willing to give up.

I don't think so.

Giving up privacy for security is one of the main positions of Bush's policies.

Scary, isn't it? How can we "spread democracy throughout the world" when we are losing it here little by little?

lol classicrock000 - Don't we all?
------------------

I think it's a great idea...and public places are just that public. I would fight to my death if we were monitored in private...but since it's working....

I've lived in LA...it's now owned by the gangs, thugs, etc. A people aren't using the public parks, beaches, etc in the areas that have been taken over by these low-lifes. It's good they're being returned to the taxpayers and communities that pay for them.

Earlier this year, police began monitoring seven cameras around MacArthur Park in the city's Westlake district, watching in amazement as crime plummeted, gangs, drug dealers and pimps disappeared, and families with children began returning to the 40-acre expanse in one of the city's poorest areas.
---------------------

parklane - I'd be interested in hearing what exactly your concern is with these cameras and how you feel it affects your day-to-day life. If you're willing.

Sigh..... I prefer letting good Americans arm themselves rather than surveilling them. But that's me. If we were permitted to defend ourselves properly, you would have good Americans standing in line to escort the elderly and feeble through the rapidly diminishing urban jungle.

Dreamer, I'm nothing but a dreeeamer....

That's a big problem I have with the Liberal Demos.
They don't want to fight or defend themselves.
They want somone else to do it for them.
If this Country takes a Liberal Demo view of things, there will be no defence at all because no one will be willing to lift a finger to fight!

OK, so some neocons favor cameras to keep us safe, some neocons want to arm themselves to keep safe but think they don't have the right(why they can't I don't know, we're perfectly free here in Minnesota to carry).

Maybe the neocons want lots of guns with cameras....maybe they can't think enough to make up their minds.

And lots of killing never bothered them....they glorify in it....so I just don't know what their problem is?????????????

Yes if everyone was brave fighters like Bush and Cheney, we would have no Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines.

Let's see, which candidate actually went into combat for his country ? And which one was AWOL from a privileged national guard unit ?

Which candidate was killing communists in Vietnam while the other was absent and working on a Senator's campaign ?

Who is braver and will fight for this country, a proven coward like Bush or a proven combat hero like Kerry ?

Well if Kerry gets in we wont need them either.
All I hear from him is how he's going to hunt down the terrorists and Kill them.

We won't know if he's a good President or not.
He'll never be around.
He'll always be out in the field, Hunting and Killing the Terrorists.

Who is braver and will fight for this country, a proven coward like Bush or a proven combat hero like Kerry ?

No one has proven Bush to be a Coward.
That's just opinion!
And no one has proven Kerry to be a Hero.
That's just opinion!

If everyone in the military were like kerry, they would be getting thier purple hearts, going back to tape the "engagement" and then go to another country to meet with the insurgents... so yeah I can see why a liberal would think kerry was a hero... he is a traitor to the US... the very thing they are against themselves.

If only we could carry openly like the old west... now that would be something, what was the name of the town in GA that made a law that each home must have a gun?

If memory serves me correctly crime dropped dramatically...

AIN'T LIFE GRAND...

The name of the town escapes me at this time.
It was done as a reaction, to the neighboring town which outlawed all guns.

After a short period of time there was a survey done, the outlawed town had no drop in crime.
But the mandatory town had a sufficient drop.

There are quite a few places where you can wear a sidearm freely.
I've been to a couple and have Carried while I was there.
It felt a little funny but no one even gave me a first or second look!
The only stipulation was:
Anyone & Everyone was free to carry!
But if you wanted to conceal it you needed a permit!
