I am wondering what will happen if I receive a bad check under the banks new policies will I have to pay a bunch of fees too or just the person who writes the bad check? I really never got very many bad checks, but when I read how they will deduct from a checking account the amount from highest to lowest and not in the order the checks were written it makes me think I could get a bunch of bad checks on low dollar items in the future.

You've finally figured out that you can't trust the banking industry? Congratulations! As long as the banks keep everyone thinking that they should be allowed to remove Banking 'fees' from the balance of the account, the banks are part of the problem. Fees should be handled in a separate account for the bank to maintain a proper relationship vis a vis the customer account. If they don't like that, too bad. The way the banking industry handles their fiduciary responsibilities in this situation steps over the line into criminality. Requiring a beginning deposit for the fee account would be acceptable.

Let me explain. As a realtor in California you are required, by law, to maintain a Fiduciary Account for all monies entrusted to you in any capacity. The Realtor isn't allowed to mickey mouse around with those funds. If Realtors started deducting fees from deposits received to pay a certain debt the public would raise a howl. You place money for an expenditure, in this case a house down payment, and if that payment is not made you demand full restitution. Why do we not require the same of our banks? Here's my money, here's my list of payments and if any fees are raised put them on my fee account. I absolutely do not feel the banks have any right to funds placed on deposit with them for the direct purpose of paying any debt I instruct the bank to pay. The method with which the banking industry presently writes their account contracts is self-serving, corrupt, and ethically bankrupt. Fiduciarily speaking, of course.

IMO.

I KNOW! Let's elect someone to the presidency who wants to take out all government control of big business including banking....then the banks can REALLy go to town and screw the public.

parklane,
most of us do not have a separate account for bank just to debit 'rubber check fee'.
My banker told me years ago when i open an account with them-if i deposit too many bad checks, they will just close my account and wont even bother to do business with me.
This is no different than having a merchant account,if the retailer keeps accepting bad credit cards, something may be wrong with his way of doing business and the customers who come to his store. The merchant account provider usually will review his account and decide if they want to continue supporting his business.

I checked with my bank and even though they use to not charge a fee if you received a bad check in your account, they now charge $24.00. So no more personal checks for me at the flea market or on E-Bay.

This was such a close election...

I feel sick and sad for my country... half of America weeps while the other half laughs.

We are weakened by our division.

With only a little more than half of our Nation supporting President Bush, surely this is not a Win for America.

God Help America and God Help us All.
