If you are the president and are seeking to get reelected, there are a few things that you have to do.
In the fact, there has never been a sitting president who has never been reelected during a war, then you have to start a war.
1. Early on in your first term, pick a another country that the general population of this country really doesn't like. One that has a leader that can be easily made to be a villain
2. Explain to the citizens, this country is an threat with weapons of mass destruction. Instill fear into them. This will allow for the support when you decide to invade them.
3. Send American troops to this country with a massive military buildup. Bomb the hell out of there land, regardless of the number of innocent people killed.
4. After 3 weeks of doing this, tell the Americans that the war is over.
5. Now, explain to the Americans that we need to stay there to allow them to rebuild their country.
6. Even though the "war is over" Americans are still being killed and maimed. Explain to the public that the people of the other country need our support in helping them rebuild the land.
7. By now, the rest of the world is starting to hate America because we invaded this country. Even though we pulled most of the burden, and have most of the dead, explain that we have allies like Poland helping us.
8. At about this time, the election campaign will start. Make the strong push that you opponent is a weak minded leader when it comes to defense. Even though the opponent makes a case that dangerous weapons were never found, and that over 1,000 American lives were lost, make him look weak.
9. Tell the voters that it's the best interest in reaching our goal in the country we invaded.
10. With great emphasis, tell them you are the competent leader that can finish the war that you started.
