Just a change of pace from our usual topics as I find this really interesting. I have a friend who is a Grandmother to a 5 year old Diabetic. Finding things this child can eat is difficult. Especially something that tastes good. Juvenile Diabetes when found in a child is devastating to the family as it does take a tole on the child's body. Many children are never diagnosed early enough.

VENICE, Calif., Nov. 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Diabetes affects over 18 million people in the United States, with more than 1.3 million new cases being reported each year. In an effort to aide the dietary needs of those dealing with diabetes, Oroweat has launched a Sugar Free bread. This new line of bread is ideal for consumers that value health benefits but don't want to sacrifice taste.
With zero grams of sugar and 100 percent whole wheat, Oroweat has created a bread the whole family can enjoy. Like all Oroweat products, Sugar Free bread contains no hydrogenated oil or trans fats.
"With diabetes affecting nearly six percent of the population in the US, Oroweat felt it was important to create a bread that not only worked with diabetics dietary needs, but also tasted great" said Bonnie Young, Oroweat's Vice President of Marketing. "This is a bread that the whole family will enjoy."
Additionally, through Ride to Cure, Oroweat has partnered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The newest fundraising program of the JDRF, the Ride to Cure Diabetes presents a fun and challenging opportunity to individuals and teams who are interested in fitness and philanthropy to contribute to a cure for diabetes. For every Sugar Free bread purchased, Oroweat will make a donation to JDRF in its effort to find a cure for diabetes.
"We are excited about our relationship with Oroweat and its involvement in the diabetic community," said Susan Sippel, National Manager of Corporate Relations and Event Marketing, JDRF. "We think it will be a great success."
Consumers can look forward to finding the new Oroweat Sugar Free bread on store shelves throughout the Western United States soon.

One hundred percent whole wheat bread without sugar added is great for diabetics! But they still have to be careful because each slice contains about 11 grams of carbohydrate which becomes sugar as it is digested....just like every other thing that you eat except fat. That's why diabetics have to measure food so carefully.

After I posted that I realized that she has something else she can't eat and that is glutin. I guess that is also found in bread so I hope that this doesn't contain it. There are websites out there that have great nformation and there is a website that has glutin free recipes for diabetics.

This kid's mother or grandmother may need to check out a local hospital to see if they offer a course for newly diagnosed diabetics. Insurance (lol..here we go again) will pay for the course which takes about three months...I think. These courses include meetings with a dietitian who will be a tremendous help with the special diet.
