Bush Taps Rice to Be Secretary of State

Tuesday, November 16, 2004
Fox News

WASHINGTON — Condoleezza Rice (search) has been nominated to lead U.S. diplomatic efforts during President Bush's second term, replacing Colin Powell (search) as secretary of state, the commander-in-chief announced Tuesday.

Good choice? Confident she'll do a good job? Anyone else you'd rather have seen in that position?

I was watching that on ABC Good Morning. They said if this was even spoken of 50 years ago, there would have been a lot of controversy about it. Now, it's not even given any thought about a black, and a woman being in a high position of power in the government of the United States. The same for the other appointment of the Mexican American.

linda,

Also, you should re-examine your headline.

Bush TAPS Rice. For some, that would have sexual overtones.

Oh really? You might want to email Fox News and give them your opinion on how they title their articles.

No surprise here. It was a foregone conclusion that she would be named.

Yup. As it was a foregone conclusion that anyone who might potentially disagree with or question Bush would be toast.

Look at all the appointments he's made so far...it's a whole kennel full of lap dogs. I'm sure they'll all do a marvelous job, in the two years left before he begins to quack.

Profe, she has like five degrees or something and I think at least one or two ph.d's. She was also this child prodigy that played the piano at the age of 5.

but duh, she'd make a great secretary.

Well isn't that funny.

Bill Clinton, John Kennedy, Johnson they also had their lap dogs.

If the democrats don't get their act together they won't see the white house in 12 years or more.

You critize Condi Rice. What about Obama. He's black and a liberal. But of course that is different. Or are you saying that women can't compete. Well Gentlemen women are taking over so beware.

Politics and cabinets are made up of lap dogs. How else will anything get done.

You are already looking forward to the day the president is a lame duck. Prof, if the democrats don't learn quickly why they changed from the party of the people into the party of the elitists and the Hollywood crowd there will be no more Republican lame ducks. And I speak as one of the former democrats. Thirty years ago, you couldn't find a republican in the south. Well, look what has happened now. Surely the dems can figure that they have gone wrong somewhere.

This regime is seeking a nuclear bomb, and with fissile material could build one within a year.
- George Bush, 9/28/02

[Iraq] could have a nuclear weapon in less than a year.
- George Bush, 10/8/02

He's trying to acquire nuclear weapons. Nobody ever said that it was going to be the next year.

A Firm Basis for Impeachment

The Bushwomen at the White House

In January Condoleezza Rice granted an interview to the Times. In the middle of a national security meltdown, when the Bush Administration--and Rice herself--stood accused of manipulating intelligence to take the country to war on a false pretext, Bumiller's softball profile, which ran on the newspaper's front page, emphasized not the National Security Adviser's complicity in the scandal but her cozy personal relationship with the President. Among other nonrevelations, readers learned from Secretary of State Colin Powell that Rice's closeness to George W. is "not unusual but at the same time, a little unusual."

...a loyal, well trained lap dog is indespensible to liars like George.

etexbill: "And what is your opinion of her at worst?" At worst I wouldn't even want to put it into words, but at best it would be "sycophant."

One of her most intesting statements was when she announced that nobody had ever imagined that someone would fly an airplane into a building.

Here is an interesting little piece on her.

prof: your quoting of "Bushisims" was not an answer to my statement at all. I guess you have no answer, right? Surely you can come up with an intelligent discussion on what the democratic party needs to do to become the party of the people again.

Or maybe not.

Planes being used as weapons was known for a long time before 9/11.

Here is a timeline that may be of interest to the uninformed.

Accused by whom? And what ever became of this supposed accusation?

Throw out the little insinuations. Somebody might be stupid enough to believe one.

The uninformed. There you go again with the name calling and cute phrases when you have nothing intelligent to say. Again, you're no crow or maggie. You just can't cut it.

I'm fully aware of the Kamikaze pilots of World War II, I lived thru it. What has that got to do with a terrorist action 60+ years later.

etexbill, if you would quit your wimpy whining about perceived personal attacks and just click on the link you would see the following:

Timeline

22 Feb 1974 At Baltimore-Washington International Airport, Samuel Joseph Byck attempts to hijack Delta Airline flight 523 at gunpoint. His plan is to force the commercial pilot to crash the plane into the White House, in an attempt to assassinate President Richard M. Nixon. But Byck is shot by airport police before the plane can leave the gate. Byck then blows his own brains out. If only he had possessed the patience to wait until the plane was already in the air, things would have gone a lot differently.

Early 1993 An FBI informant and an Egyptian government spy uncover a plot for a Sudanese Air Force pilot to steal an airplane, bomb an Egyptian presidential palace, then crash the plane into the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

11 Sep 1994 Frank Eugene Corder steals a small single-engine airplane around 11 p.m. A few hours later, around 2 a.m. the morning of Sept. 12, Corder tried to crash the airplane into the White House. He missed by a matter of yards and hit a tree on the White House lawn.

16 Sep 1994 Ramzi Yousef and Khalid Shaikh Mohammed develop a plan to bomb a dozen U.S.-bound airliners and to crash a hijacked commercial jet into U.S. targets, a list which included the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and CIA headquarters. The overall plot is called "Bojinka."

22 Nov 1994 Terry Nichols, later accused of conspiring to blow up the federal building in Oklahoma City, is stopped at the Las Vegas airport before boarding a flight for the Philippines because metal detectors revealed he was carrying two stun guns on his person. He is permitted to continue on the flight and allowed to carry the stun guns in his luggage.

11 Dec 1994 Ramzi Yousef plants a bomb on an airplane as a practice run for Bojinka. He puts the bomb on a timer, then disembarks in Cebu City (where Terry Nichols coincidentally happens to be visiting his wife). The bomb detonates after Yousef leaves the plane, killing one passenger but failing to destroy the plane.

24 Dec 1994 Four armed terrorists from the Groupe Islamique Armé (GIA) hijack Air France flight 8969, with the intent of crashing it into the Eiffel Tower. The plane is finally stormed 48 hours later by French soldiers at Marseille International Airport.

6 Jan 1995 Philippines police arrest Abdul Hakim Murad, a Bojinka conspirator, who confesses the planned kamikaze hijacking to his interrogators. He is later turned over to the U.S. government, along with the details of his confession, including the kamikaze attack.

7 Feb 1995 The FBI leads a task force that arrests Ramzi Yousef in Pakistan and flies him back to New York City to face trial. During the flight, Yousef tells investigators he wanted to topple both towers of the World Trade Center when he bombed it in 1993.

Sep 1999 Library of Congress report: "Suicide bomber(s) belonging to al Qaeda's Martyrdom Battalion could crash-land an aircraft packed with high explosives (C-4 and semtex) into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), or the White House."

1999-2001 NORAD plans and executes drills on how to defend the country against attacks by terrorists using hijacked airliners as missiles. A proposed drill with an airliner being crashed into the Pentagon is scrapped as "unrealistic." Apparently, no one took notes during any of these meetings.

4 Mar 2001 The Fox television network airs episode #1AEB79 (titled "Pilot" of The Lone Gunmen (an X-Files spinoff) in which the heroes narrowly foil a terrorist plot to crash a Boeing 727 passenger jet into the World Trade Center. Executive producer Frank Spotnitz later comments: "What's disturbing about it to me is, you think as a fiction writer that if you can imagine this scenario, then the people in power in government who are there to imagine disaster scenarios can imagine it, too."

11 Sep 2001 Come on, you know.

17 Oct 2001 USAF General Richard Myers confides to American Forces Radio: "You hate to admit it, but we hadn't thought about this."

May 2002 Condoleezza Rice: "I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile."

29 Aug 2002 Kerim Sadok Chatty is arrested at Vaesteraas airport in Sweden with a handgun in his carry-on bags. Reportedly, Chatty's plan was to hijack a Ryanair flight bound for England and crash it into a US Embassy.

29 May 2003 A passenger with two sharpened wooden stakes attempts to hijack Quantas flight QF1737.

3 Jan 2004 Egyptian commercial flight reverses course after takeoff and then inexplicably plunges into the ocean. Egypt insists the event is not terrorist in nature. Before crashing, the plane had been heading for a resort town where UK Prime Minister Tony Blair was vacationing.

26 Mar 2004 Former FBI translator Sibel D. Edmonds tells Salon: "After reading National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, where she said 'we had no specific information whatsoever of domestic threat or that they might use airplanes.' That's an outrageous lie. And documents can prove it's a lie."

13 Apr 2004 President George W Bush: "Had I known that there was going to be an attack on America, I would have moved mountains to stop the attack. I would have done everything I can. My job is to protect the American people."

13 Apr 2004 President Bush: "Nobody in our government, at least, and I don't think the prior government, could envision flying airplanes into buildings on such a massive scale."

I haven't said a thing about personal attacks. You can attack me all you want, Sic 'em.

And I don't see a thing in your cut and paste that proves that we knew of a definite planned attack by a plane. If so, why didn't Bill do something about it. All the later stuff was in his administration.
