Apparantly, Bush is visiting the countries that did not support the war against Iraq to try an smooth out relationships. The talks here were supposed to be about Canadian lumber and relaxing the beef export to the U.S. Instead, a couple of reminders were presented to Paul Martin regarding missle defense and how gracious Bush will be by allowing Canada to bid on Iraqi contracts when a new round of bids (to the tune of 4.5 billion dollars) comes up in October '05. The talks about beef and lumber were put off until then. So if I'm seeing things clearly, doesn't it seem to you like Bush is blackmailing us?
On a lighter side, when Bush stepped off the plane in Ottawa, he said he was happy to see all the hands waving at him - especially the ones with 5 fingers.

Yes, he seems to be sucking up to the Canadians for some reason at this time. On American TV news it said the EVERY president since FDR made Canada the first formal trip after the election. For some reason Bush waited nearly 4 years before visiting Canada. I think that he wanted a flu shot or something.

Yes, KD...sounds like blackmail to me but I'll bet it gets him nowhere!
About the "welcome".
The president said "the reception we received on the way in from the airport was very warm and hospitable, and I want to thank the Canadian people who came out to wave -- with all five fingers -- for the hospitality."
Martin, continuing Bush's joke about hand gestures, observed that "Spanish and English and French are three different languages, but that sign language is universal." The leader of the officially bilingual nation switched frequently between English and French, leading Bush to remove and replace his translation headset.

That's right Helen. We don't buy his type of politics here. One of the main reasons why Bush hasn't paid any attention to Canada, is because our former Prime Minister, Jean Chretien, disliked Bush with a passion. Maybe he's hoping Paul Martin won't be as sharp as Chretien was. In my opinion, if Bush's ploy worked, you'll be seeing troops from Canada head to Iraq in the next year. We'll see.
That was a good quote from Bush - good from Martin too.

I'm in London, Classic. Toronto is about 1 1/2 hours north of me. Kiara's way out in B.C. (where they had to pay for their flu shot... snicker, snicker). Where have you been in Canada? Did you like it?
P.S. Yellow, when I asked Classic if he liked it I'm talking about his trips here - nothing else.

That's a lot of driving, Classic. Good choices on the places you've been to! I hope everyone treated you well here.
P.S. Funny, I don't remember you. Was I drunk?
Yeager, that's awesome. Sure, I've been to Sarnia many times. I love taking walks along the shoreline. Are you in Detroit? I was there last summer.

Everyone in the US should take a trip to Canada. It is a clean and beautiful place with many flower gardens. Well kept. Friendly people but those metrics get me.
I have been to Winnipeg, Port Arthur, Fort William, since they are just over the border from Minnesota, Sault Saint Marie, Montreal, Quebec, Niagara Falls and Victoria. Enjoyed every minute.
The reason Pres. Bush didn't make an initial visit to Canada because The Prime Minister and he didn't get along. Why visit with someone you don't like.

I went to Canada one time and what a long strange trip it was. All I remember (I WAS drunk the whole time) was spending United States nickles all over the place so they could get some of ours in their change for a change. I can't remember if I liked it though.

Yeah but she sweats too much and afterward it's like sleeping on top of one huge wet spot that covers the entire matress.
I am right across the river from Sarina. I am 2 minutes from the bridges. Sometimes when we want to go to Ontario, we use the car ferry between Sombra, Ont, and Marine City, Michigan if the bridges are too far backed up. It costs 5 bucks, but it doesn't have the long waiting time like the bridges do. We took the ferry on 9-12-2001. It was much faster. There was a 3 hour wait for passenger cars and about a 10 hour wait for semi trucks wanting to cross the bridge. The lines were so long, the Ontario Department (Ministry) of Highways put out porta-johns.
