If any of you get a chance (especially those of you with NetFlix) you should check out a DVD called Control Room. It is billed as a look inside Al Jazeerah but it's really much more. It is a documentary that was filmed at CentCom during the early days of the Iraqi war. You see reporters from CNN and NBC as well as AJ but I really think the most interesting personality in it is one of the US military media contacts. There are many frank behind the scenes conversations including an interesting one between him and an AJ reporter where the reporter is explaining to him how the average arab views the invasion (Seriously - this was one of those conversations that really opens eyes!). Funniest thing is the behind the scenes footage of american reporters after the press conference that first introduced the "Most Wanted Deck of Cards".

It really does not matter if you are conservative or liberal, for the war or against it - it is a very interesting and informative documentary that makes you see the other side of the coin on a variety of topics. The intriguing thing is that I think that the most conservative of people will walk away really liking the AJ news director.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I read somewhere a comparison between Al Jazeera and Fox News...that video should be interesting.

Helen - that is an interesting review but I have to wonder if the person was watching the same show I saw...

In "Control Room," we see American journalists chortling at video footage of looting in Iraq, we see the jubilant greeting to the news of the rescue of a female U.S. soldier, a story that galvanized much of America. Al Jazeera journalists broadcast nothing about it, so some Mideast residents seen in this film are astonished at this development in a case they've never heard of.

None of those things were in the dvd that I just watched.

Hassan Ibrahim (whose wife lives in Israel),

I guess the reviewer was in the bathroom during the scene where she was asking her husband what time he was getting off work tonight and again when Ibrahim invited Rushing to his home for dinner and to meet his wife.

Positive review of the DVD but very strange in that it really misses the boat and misrepresents a number of things in the DVD.

I plan to watch this new dvd called Buried In The Sand.

It documents all of Saddams atrocities that were never mentioned on Al Jazeerah.

The intriguing thing is that I think that the most liberal of people will walk away really not liking the AJ news director.
