Since my mother is convinced she is having early onset of alzheimers I have been paying more attention to some of the things that they are reccommending for prevention and cure.

The last two days have been really interesting and ironic. Yesterday I read that curry is being proven to both help prevent alzheimers and to help treat it as it seems to work to break up the plaque on the brain. Today I was watching the Today Show and in the second hour there was an "expert" talking about how chocolate and caffeine are effective agents in fighting both Alzheimers and Parkinsons. All this sounds great and then they get to that third hour segment on anti-aging. In that one the expert tells you stay far far away from the curry, caffeine, chocolate.... oh yeah... and red wine (good for the heart).

So the choice is yours.... do we deal with the raveges of age and do it with a clear mind or fall apart early but leave a pretty corpse

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

beauty or brains....the one's I've always envied are the people who have both.

On the 'use this to prevent that' issue...I've given up listening to the recommended solutions. History has proven to me that no sooner do we accept them as being the road to take to prevent an ailment...then they reverse their findings.

The most recent for me was starting the HRT. Did it for years. They thought, and early studies supported, not only did it ease a woman through menopause but also prevented heart attacks in women. Years later proved not to be true. Doctors couldn't get their patients off the harmones quick enough. Now...some have said those findings weren't correct.

On alzheimers: My mother's [an RN] generation believed that it was caused by people using aluminum pots and pans for cooking, rather than the more expensive stainless steel. Three of my friends parents have been diagnosed with alzheimers and are on the same 'research' road you appear to be headed down. I wish you much luck.

Linda - I don't think she really has it. She is still in her 50s. I think it's just a matter of being overworked and overstressed but sometimes a little placebo is a good thing. (Of course finding her car keys that she lost two weeks ago would help too.)

Besides... I love curry and now I can convince her that should have more india and thai food when I am in town
