To the Families of the Brave Ohio Marines
Written by Russ Vaughn

Why was it my son had to die,
To preserve some truth? To hide a lie?
Why did my country ask of me,
To sacrifice my hopes so totally?
Why must one home give up so much,
Among the few to feel death’s touch?
Why was it my son had to die?
Please let me know, please tell me why.
Your son died in a valiant cause,
To save our way of rights and laws,
To keep the light of freedom glowing,
To keep the rights of freemen flowing,
To keep our tall torch burning bright
Against the terror, against its night.
Your son gave up his valiant best,
To save our ways, preserve the rest.
True, politics is a darkened art,
Devouring lives of those with heart,
The heart to give their very best,
To serve, protect we helpless rest.
But, Lord, we’re thankful some will serve
We multitudes, who lack their nerve.
They take up arms and fight our foes,
Bearing bloody burdens for our woes.
Why was it my son had to die?
Why must I be the one to cry?
Because you are one of the few,
Who raised a son who truly knew,
Our freedom’s price is paid in blood,
Young men must die to stay the flood,
To keep the terror wolves at bay,
To save us all, preserve our way.
Why was it my son had to die?
Because your son was one fine guy.

Another grieving parent....but seeing our military in such a different light.
It is beautiful, bear. So touching.
And I've read so many statements from parents who've lost their sons in both wars. They respect their children enough to support their choices, even if they, themselves, disagreed with the Iraq war.
They're proud of them....and they will miss them forever...no doubt about that. But they understand the threat our country faces from the radical Islamists. They want us to win this war.

And why the American Voters chose to RE-elect President Bush to four more years. YES!!!

Bear, they ran a really good story about a marine who died from one of the Cleveland units on CNN the other day. (I tried to find it but couldnt. It was a feature so I guess it was buried somewhere.) Anyway, they spoke to the father and his sister, and they were not bitter at all. You could see they were sad and devastated, but they weren't angry or lashing out about Bush or anything.
The father said his son wanted to go and serve his country and he wasn't afraid. It was so bittersweet though. I almost started crying. The dad said the son gave him this marine ring to wear until he got home and the dad went on to say how the son said, you know, i want it back when I get home...and then the father kind of trailed off and said, ...well, I guess I'll keep it now...

Yeah now there is real concern. Talk about laying down a load. Mingotree that says it all about what you think of our troops and the sacrifices they are making.

No, Mr. Washingtonebayer, sir, your honor, my comment was on the poem, the post and has nothing to do with my support of the troops or lack thereof.
I am not swayed by neocon rhetoric nor sappy poems to make people feel good about killing their sons AND daughters.
I support the troops, not this war, and not bad writing.

dbl - I saw that on CNN tv too. Made me want to reach through the TV screen and give him a big hug. I'm glad they showed his son's ring up close too. Bet his Dad will never take it off until the day he dies. Gave me goose-bumps. You could just feel the love....and grief.

I suppose Bush is ready to grieve with this parent and hold a press conference to answer her questions

Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.

Bush was right. The truth did come out and the facts are he misled Congress and the American people about the reasons we should go to war in Iraq.

Oh Dble, I have no trouble finding you......and no trouble making you disappear. You seem so afraid of one little bitty question:
"""Good crowfart, I hope you and nancy drew log that statement as further 'proof' I trashed your auctions"""
