I think it's a safe bet that the new for the rest of the week is going to be about the Isreali pull out of Gaza. Basically there are three stories that we hear abut. the people that left the teritory and left their home intact for the income Palestian families often notes of welcome and best wishes in a hope of peace, those that have left their homes but not before destroying or at least seriously danaging them, determined to not leave anything for the Palestians, and those that are refusing to leave altogether (these are the ones we will be seeing much of in oming days).

If you were in the Gaza this week, which group would you be falling into?

I hate to say it but I would fall into the category of those who leave but leave nothing behind..

Knowing what is at stake, I'd be like the first ones you described and leave things intact. I wouldn't take it out on the next family. I'm not saying I wouldn't leave with some anger and resentment. Destroying things wouldn't change any of that.

Boy...that's a difficult one, fenix.

I very much admire/respect those who are leaving and offering peace to the incoming Palestian's. I have read the are a very small group though....I believe 26-27% are going in this manner.

Those who are destroying their homes are angry and I can understand their anger about being forced to give up their homes....I would be too especially if I felt our giving up our land/homes wasn't really going to improve anything anyway. Everytime Israel has given up something to the Palestian's it hasn't brought peace....just 'demands' for more....they want it aLL ... and they want the Jews totally erased from the face of the ME.

Then those that are staying are the humans willing to fight for what they believe strongly in - like those who join our Armed Forces. They don't want the government giving up their land/their homes.....just like many of us didn't like this last USSC ruling...saying our homes/land could be taken from us, by order of the government agencies.

So....I'm undecided....and will say..."May the best man win". As I don't have a dog in this fight. If it were my land....my home....and my government was going to take it to give to the Mexican government....I'd be at my door with my guns.

I'd have to be in the group that believes in a burnt earth policy.

"Why, it appears that we appointed all of our worst generals to command the armies and we appointed all of our best generals to edit the newspapers. I mean, I found by reading a newspaper that these editor generals saw all of the defects plainly from the start but didn't tell me until it was too late. When it comes down to my life and the life of my children, I would rather leave than take a chance of losing the lives of my family... but I would not leave the home that I worked hard to build.. they can have the land. Life is more important than possessions.. imo

maggie....but do we know that their families [women and children] haven't been sent off somewhere safe, while they're going to fight for what they feel is theirs?
--------

It's been my experience in life that there are 'quitters' there are 'the fraidie cats' and there are those who are willing to give up their lives for what they believe in.....like most all of our armed forces do. And I'm not only referring to during war times....just life in general.

Perhaps you are right, Linda.. as a Mother, my roll is to protect and nurture.. so that is why I would choose to leave with my kids.. but my husband would probably choose to stay and fight for his land and property... I think our opinions may change according to age and capability, family structure etc..

I think i would leave the house intact but i would wire the entire house with explosives so that it would explode when a certain light switch was turned on and i would spray paint a big welcome Hamas sign on one wall with a big smiley face next to it.

Of course at that point I would hope that you would be arrested, put to death as a terrorist and the money given to you in exchange for you home taken from your survivors... but that's just me.

I would leave the home intact. Not their fault I had to leave.

On the other hand next Govt. Official I seen would get a nice ham sandwich sent.

I'd like to think I would take the high road and leave the house intact. After all, they are getting a decent sum of money from the government for relocation.

But, on the other hand, it's hard to relate to the situation - the conflict runs so deep and has been going on for so long.

I don't think I'd be one of the people refusing to leave, especially since they may lose the money being offered to them if they are not out by Wednesday.

Another thing it appears some Jews will be doing....is staying right where they are but they say they're not going to fight...that there will be NO violence.

Fox had a telephone interview with a Jewish woman who had lived in the same house for 30 years. Her children born there, her grandchildren were born there and she said she hoped her great-grandchildren would be born there too.

She's not going. Sounded to me like she's going to have to be carried away IF they can. But she said they had no plans to fight.

Another way to look at the situation is to consider it Imminent Domain. That happens here all the time. And while most don't leave kind letters sitting on the kitchen table, nobody blows their house up even though they are just as angry over the situation. Consider for one moment that this fight is over LAND. Lives lost over LAND. You can't really own it. It belongs to Mother Earth. You may own the building on top of it, but the earth below it can never really be yours. It's at least a chance for peace. It is interesting to note that the West Bank once belonged to the Turks (ottoman empire) who owned it for hundeds of years. Then the British owned it after WW1, then Jordan owned it a bit after WW2. Israel owned it after 1967. Did you also know that the Israeli government owns and controls about 79-80% of all land in Isreal? Talk about government control!

I've been watching BBC coverage of this (I can't find much in the US) and it seems that the big hope of the settlers is that the soldiers will all break down emotionally and switch sides. I think it's going to get ugly tomorrow (tonight) but the sad thing is that I don't think the problems will be with the settlers so much as with the protesters who came in during the week. Although the remaining settlers seem to be hoping for a change they seem be resigned that they will have to leave.

I just heard on the news that it was agreed upon between the governments that the houses would all be leveled with the exception of a few farms. The Palestinian government plans to build homes from scratch apparently.

Fenix - I was surprised that this wasn't a bigger story in the U.S. news - the most coverage I've seen on it is Fox News. It is an historic moment, I feel similar to the wall coming down, and it certainly deserves more attention than it is getting.

Caroline - I could not agree morte. They have spent more time covering a plane crash in Venezuela that they have no information on than they have to the pull out. They had not even found the plane yet and they are bringing in "experts" to talk about what could have caused the crash who of course have nothing to say.

I cannot figure out why this is getting so little coverage. I have an idea, but even to me it seems fmore of a conspiracy theory than a real answer. Could the US media just not want to give much coverage to the a "jewish retreat" which benefits arab people? I don't know... maybe it's ridiculous... maybe I just want it to be ridiculous.
