Protests have spread across the Muslim world over the publication in European news papers of cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist. Outrage over the cartoons has ignited demonstrations from Turkey to the Gaza Strip, and prompted a boycott of Danish products throughout the Middle East.

In Pakistan, hundreds demonstrated on Thursday, chanting "Death to Denmark" and burning Danish and French flags. In Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak warned that the decision by some European papers to publish the cartoons could encourage terrorists. Consequently, government ministers from 17 Arab nations have asked the Danish government to punish the newspaper for what they called an "offense to Islam" and some countries have even pulled their ambassadors from Denmark.

The controversy intensified on Wednesday when a French news paper, printed a new drawing on its front page showing Jewish, Muslim and Christian holy figures sitting on a cloud, with the caption "Don't worry Muhammad, we've all been caricatured here".

The response by Muslims to the cartoons is absolutely pathetic and depressing but revealing. The reason Muslims are responding with anger and threats of violence is because most Muslims live in countries where democracy and freedom of speech are alien concepts.

Moreover, the Muslim world suffers from a lack of visionary leadership. In this particular case, when Muslim leaders, including American Muslim leaders, realized that Muslims are furious they joined the chorus of fury rather than explain to their people that they must be reasonable and that freedom of speech is healthy even if it is insulting. What is even more disgusting is that most American Muslim organizations, who should know better, have joined the chorus of instigators rather than taking this opportunity to teach their members about the importance of freedom of speech and tolerance.

One would think that Muslims have learned a lesson from the mishaps of the radical Iranian spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khomeini when in 1989, he called on Muslims to kill British author Salman Rushdie for alleged blasphemy in his book, The Satanic Verses. The childish and stupid reaction by Khomeini caused an otherwise poor book to become a number one seller. Similarly today, the stupid reaction by Muslims has caused many more news papers to publish insulting images of the Prophet Mohammed.

When will Muslims wake up and realize that their intolerance of opposing opinions is keeping them in the dark ages? When will Muslims realize that respect must be earned and not forced through violence and coercion? When will Muslims realize that individual liberty and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights? When will American Muslim organization provide solutions to Muslims rather than instigate problems? The Free Muslims Coalition hopes that the answer to all these questions is soon.

HUH! Has any cartoons or images been published in US papers? if not why is the US organizations of Muslims joining in protest if they are.
If this is Danish why are they burning French Flags (funny since they didn't join US in efforts against Iraq) Did French papers put it in their papers?

Another thing to think about is the Muslim terrorist use any excuse to cause murder and mahem anywhere so I would think the publishing of insults to them would invite terrorist attacks. I am for freedom of press and speech and think nothing insulting of such images. I think them funny and we all know Muslims have no sense of humor and don't have our beliefs. We will never change them they should all go to their little corner of the world and stay there and everyone else can ignore them. But that leaves them keeping all their oil. Wonder if we told them to keep it and every country did same and said we & other countries (every stinking one) would not buy their oil or sell them any supplies of any kind what would hapen to them. Shame is we would all be hurt but am thinking them the most.

But who am I to say, I am just stumped why these people are so Stupid ( my opinion)
And they are just looking for another excuse to hate everyone not muslim and the country they come from. Heck they even hate each other, you can't deal with creeps like that.

Don't shoot me for my stupid opinions, I'm just a little fart who would like to change the world and has no hope of doing so.

Irked - you seem to be a sbit short sighted on a number of issues here. Number one - you seem to believe that Middle Easterners and Muslims are synonomous - they are not.

You seem to believe that our society actually has the resources to say "Thanks but no thanks' to imported oil. We Don't.

You seem to believe that a small percentage of radicals are representative of all members of a religion. They are not.

You seem to believe that the French are big supporters of Islam. They are not. Remember, they placed a ban on headscarves and much of the revolt that took place across the country a few months ago was a result of institutionalized discrimination against persons of arabic descent.

The reason you think the images are funny and do not understand the uproar is that you have no comprehension of Islam. The depiction, in any form, of The Prophet Muhammad is forbidden. To run a series of comics which not only cross that line but then proceed to portray him in the most negative of lights is the ultimate slap in the face to their beliefs.

Still don't understand why they are so upset? Consider this.. When retailers did something as minor as saying happy holidays rather than Mery Christmas we here in the US got submitted to a month long campaign on the "War against Christmas". You had boycotts, a book about it, a cable channel full of commentators playing McCarthy with their blacklist and politicians beating the drums for all they could milk from it. And this was all for something quite minor.

Now don't get me worng, I think arson and kidnapping and killing over this is above and beyond but then that's not the majority of Muslims, it's a small minority. But then the crazed rampage of a small minority makes much better news than the economic boycott of products by the reasonable masses. Lets face it... People not buying something just does not make for good video.

Nope Far-sighted could write a book but this is just a message board....
I didn't say what you seem to think I said.
Didn't say French supported Islam, & I said what if (I wonder) and also that both sides would get hurt. And I did not say Middle East anywhere to get technical & I said Muslim Terrorists key word terrorist. .....
And I stand by my statement ALL Muslims have no humor, except maybe that actor that was on the one time Whoopi Goldberg TV sitcom sometime back in 2004, don't know his name but saw him on a comedy special and he even said there was no humor in the Muslims... I am in no way a bigot, or one that will fool himself that his opinion matters in the long run but will always voice it when I feel like it and bless our country for letting me do so.

I would not put offensive things - images - in the paper if I was publisher if it had to do with Religion, government well maybe government LOL, or a race issue.

As everyone knows and probably could agree on the fact that not everyone has same opinions and most likely will disagree in some way.

I am all too aware of the oil so called crisis WE rely on foreign oil to a great degree.

I am just a bit confused on this statement Fenix- "Lets face it... People not buying something just does not make for good video."
If boycotted they ( Muslim terrorist nations) would have nothing to buy or sell the result would be the horrible news story...
I said we not sell to them does not mean sell but boycott and seems like that would create video we, every one of us would not want to see--people starving cause no country would provide or "sell or trade" with them for needed food, medicines, and other major things they don't or can't produce themselves... It works both ways we without oil suffering Economy shuts down them with out food etc would make for horrible videos for the news to blast us with. But alas not all countries are going to cut off their nose to spite their face so to speak.

Our country is not perfect, the whole world is not perfect, I am the least perfect. But I have to say anyone who kills in the name of anything be it
God, Mohammad, Moses, Mickey Mouse, or The almighty Dollar$$$$ is plain wrong...

Bang I'm dead.

Irked. I was not referring to your ridiculous notion that about boycotting/embragoing the middle east (BTW - What do you think we make that they can't get elsewhere? You strange little concept would be better lknown as cutting off your nose despite your face. If you think China and India as emerging nations are going t oturn their back on Middle eastern oil you are living in a cotton candy dream world.) I was reffering to the the current boycott of Danish goods being practiced by the more reasonable members of the islamic community as opposed to the arson and death threat placard waving members that are getting all of the attention.
