The Olympic Games opening ceremony is just over 10 hours away. The ceremony starts at 7.00 pm this evening ( Australian Time ).
I have heard that the opening ceremony will not be broadcast live on television in the US but will be on a 15 hour delay. Is this true?
If this is the case I would be very surprised. If it is true what would be the reason for not showing this event live. Commercial interests at work here?

Most people in North America will be asleep.

The delay is because of the time difference.

The opening ceremony will be broadcast Friday at 6:30PM when people will be home to watch it.

Hi bitsandbobs,

Will you be attending any of the festivities or competitions?

It's going to be hard not to find out who won what before we get to see the competition. I really enjoy the games and don't want to know before I see it for myself.
