Thanks to all those who suggested using AdSubtract to block the flashing banners at AW and elsewhere on the web. I was hesitant to try it, since I'm rather fussy about stuff running in the background on my system.

So far so good, I can read and post to AW and not suffer from twitchy shaky eyes from the flashing nonsense.

My eyes thank you, my brain thanks you, and I thank you.

http://www.adsubtract.com

When in doubt, just add a .com at the end. Usually works.

Thanks Meya - I finally downloaded it this morning and it's great. I'm using the basic SE (free version). What a difference!

Hi Meya,

What is Adsubtract?

btw this post is really hard to type, as I can barely see it, as my stupid! monitor is going out, and its very very light, (someone told me its a gassy tube, whatever!) I need a new one, and its gonna be a flat screen if I have my druthers!

Thanks!

AbSubtract is a shareware program that runs in the background of your Internet Browser and blocks the banner advertisements. You can also set it block cookies, specifically DoubleClick cookies.

It downloads and installs quickly, and works like a charm. The flashing banners at AW had become a real problem for me. I have a neurological problem which affects my eyes, and the flashing caused me no end of trouble.

They are gone gone gone! And I'm happy happy happy.

A gassy tube? I think my husband has one of those, too.

It's regrettable that AW doesn't hold its customers in sufficient regard that they would spare us the annoyance of those flashing banners, and obviate the need for us to download outside software simply to use the site in peace.

I also question the apparent lack of social responsibility on the part of AW, given this site's HEAVY promotion of Casino-On-Net. Studies have shown that gambling, which can be addictive, appeals most to those who can least afford to risk the money. I'm not sure whether Casino-On-Net is a game or real online gambling, but either way what it's promoting can be detrimental in the long run.

AW JUST TOOK MY THREAD OFF ABOUT ADSUBTRACT SITE THAT I MADE UP ...THEY DO NOT LIKE THE FACT THAT IT TAKES AWAY THE ADDS FROM THERE SIT THIS IS THE EMAIL THAT I GOT FROM THEM ..I removed your thread about adsubtract from the Round Table forum because it was a bit over the top and seemed promotional.

It is those very banner ads that you are encouraging the membership not to look at that makes AuctionWatch possible.

I have left the one in the Ebay Outlook as it wasn't as blatantly promotional but warn you about flooding the forums with similar information threads.

Thanks for you cooperation,
