Some progress, huh:

"Halloween is fast approaching and the goblins and ghouls are still swarming around the streets of Baghdad. I cancelled an appointment I had with XXXXXX this week as I figured it wasn't worth the risk to him, me or my colleagues to go there...back in 2003 I would have waltzed right over to [his place]...

"Fall is coming to Iraq also with more cloudy skies and some slight temperature drops...we work all day in our well-appointed villa office surrounded by guards of all kinds and we watch DVDs and play cards at night...and they call this developing the Iraq agribusiness sector??!!? All day long the boom-boom sounds come in off the streets to remind us there's an urban war going on out there...we eat lunch and hold meetings with the State Department folks in from their XXXXX and we look for ways to implement projects in the bad hinterlands...we want to do feedlots and ship Iraqi butchers fat animals to slaughter and sell...we want to do fish farms and put fish protein on every Iraqi plate... we want to grow millions of new tomatoes of fancy species and process the hell outta them in a tomato paste processing factory...we want to grow dates that will compete with California and Tunisian dates on the world markets...we play volleyball and wonder about the kids playing soccer in the mean streets where a pile of garbage might hide an IED (improvised explosive device)...the generals plan and scheme and nothing much seems to work...is the surge really working? Will we bomb Iran next week...nothing seems to be right or real when everything is protection, protection, protection and security, security, security.."

Nice to read comments from an "un-OFFICIAL source that cuts through the crap and gives a view of REAL life in Iraq....and what our taxes are NOT doing.
