I recall you take one of those acid reflux medication, either prilosec or nexium or prevacid, are you still taking it now?
I stopped taking medication and I have acid reflux every night.
But recently I ate some Kiwi fruits after dinner and did noT have acid reflux during the night.
Last night I ate three and the night before two and no acid reflux.
May be it is too early to tell, but it is worth trying.

Nopalitos (cactus - it looks like slimy frenched green beans) have a similar affect. What aloe does for your skin, they do for your GI tract. You can find them canned in the hispanic section of your grocery. My friend serves them tossed with feta cheese. I love to throw a big pile of them on a baby greens salad, with chicken, avocado, sunflower seeds, gorgonzola cheese and tomato vinagrette dressing. I think I ate this for lunch for at least 5 years and never felt better.

Edited again to add: I just read that nopalitos are also beneficial to diabetics. I had gestational diabetes and have recently suspected I have diabetes because sugar and simple carbs make me feel awful. My blood sugar levels test normal (duh! I don't eat sugar and avoid simple carbs) but I'm tempted to go back to my nopalito daily diet again to get back to my prime.

Nopalitos are an old time Mexican remedy for diabetes that has recently been verified by research. My grandmother was diabetic and used nopalitos and chaparral tea (also under study) instead of the insulin she hated to take. She lived to be very old and did not die from diabetes. She always clained that fresh ones were the only ones to use and said that the ones in the jars didn't work. You can find whole prickly pear pads in latino grocery produce sections. They are called "tunas", which has nothing to do with the fish, btw. Instructions are online for how to prepare them. I love them grilled, diced and scrambled into eggs. They have a gelatinous fluid that comes out of them not unlike okra. The research I've read says this fluid is the key to diabetes control and although most people rinse it off, they shouldn't.

meant to add, I also know a guy in Sonora who treats his fairly severe diabetes with nopales. He slices a chunk off a fresh pad each morning and buzzes it up in the blender with some juice. Down the hatch, no more blood sugar problems.

I will pass this along to my brother in law.
As for aloe for acid reflux,I tried that and it does not work.
Kiwi fruit contains a certain substance which acts like a meat tenderizer, pineapple and papaya have that too.
Kiwi also contains lot of potassium.
whatever it has,it sure is working.
and it is cheaper too.

Hi Hwahwa,

I am still taking meds for acid reflux. I tried taking Prilosec OTC, it worked somewhat but now I am taking a generic prescription.

I have tried kiwis in the past and they are good to eat. Not sure I can handle eating 3 a night though. I will test them out and let you know.

Niel35,
wow,thanks.
here is the content of the NZ site-
Kiwifruit could help tummy troubles.

A specialist is testing a dietary supplement which could provide relief for thousands of people suffering from indigestion. Gastroenterologist John Wyeth has been studying stomach disorders for 20 years and is helping to develop a supplement based on kiwifruit which could reduce acid reflux. He says the important thing is that the new supplement is completely natural, based on kiwifruit enzymes and is made in New Zealand. Dr Wyeth says up to 40 percent of the population suffers from some form of indigestion, so this could provide a natural solution.

Well, now lets talk about the side effect of eating too many Kiwi fruits-
it looks like Kiwi is blocking absorption of fat.

Does the good doctor say how many kiwi fruits should be eaten in a day?
