As I watched the news coverage today of the anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, I couldn't help remembering where I was and what I was doing when I first heard about the planes crashing into the World Trade Center. I was here, reading this board. I can't remember if I was moderating that day, or just reading. I do know I read the first reports of the crash here at the Round Table. That's when I turned the TV on. I spent the rest of the day glued to my computer and my TV.

Remembering all this, I felt the urge to take a stroll through my old stomping grounds and remember some of the people I spent that day with. So I thought I'd check out the Round Table again after all this time. I still recognize a few names, and it's nice to see you're still here. I also see that a lot of people appear to be gone, but I guess that's the way it goes.

But I'm getting to be a sentimental old fool, so I just thought I'd stop by and say hello to anyone who happens to remember that day, right here, while we all watched TV and listened to the radio, and posted on auctionwatch.com about the horror that was unfolding.

So, hello.

Pat

I was slowly waking up, sipping coffee on the west coast, watching TV when the first news broke. My sobbing woke up my kindergartner. After a bit, I went downstairs to get him breakfast. When I came up, he told me the Pentagon had been hit. I tried to explain to him that no, the World Trade Center is in NY, the Pentagon is in Washington, DC. Then I realized with horror- he was right and we were under siege.

Pattaylor! You may not remember me (Hjw) but you were one of my favorites during the time that the RT was moderated....always fair with a good sense of humor too! Yesterday, I too remembered watching the 9/11 tragedy develop on TV while posting here.

Only a few of the people posting then are here today but I often think of them.

And a few related discussions that week...

Hello Pattayler - thanks for stopping by and remembering the RT. I remember you too and always thought you were a fair moderator, many times making me smile.

Back then I posted on the EO but then I started lurking the RT as I knew there were political discussions here and I wanted to hear opinions on WHY this had happened and who Osama bin Laden was. That day I remember everyone in RL and on the news questioning where the president was and it seemed as if everyone wanted reassurance from him that things were in control and he had command of the situation. I remember later in the day Peter Jennings asking where the president was - I think some other reporter told him that he'd disappeared down the rabbit hole.

Thanks for all the links, Helen. As I scan them I remember so many of the names so hope to find time to read them later.

Hello, kiara, it's nice to "see" you again. I remember the confusion about where Bush was on that day as well. I guess there was confusion about lots of things...on that day, and still now. *shrug*

Helen, of course I remember you. Thanks so much for posting those links...where and how in the world did you find them? So many names I'd forgotten! I wonder what happened to them all.

Is the RT still the place for hot debate? Or have all my rowdy friends done rowdied on down?

Helen,

Thanks for those links. While I wasn't on the RT at that time, it does bring back memories of that day. I guess it is our version of the JFK assassination. A day that we will never forget where we were when we heard the news of what was unfolding.

Oh by the way, some former posters still lurk here even though they can no longer post and have used your links on another board.

So much for people doing their own research. It must be a lot easier for them to copy and paste. LOL LOL

You're very welcome, Pat, Kiara and Logansdad!

It was a simple search. I just expanded the link that searches one year to include 2001.

Logansdad, I can guess the place.

Pat, wherever they "rowdy" I wish them well. Right now, with a rare exception every now and then the RT is an agreeable group. I think we need a good moderator to shake things up a bit so we can meet in the corner to fight.
