Except for the economy (covered on another stamp) this National Defense stamp of 1940 pinpoints my major concerns for our country in 2008.

That is one great cartoon!
Sometimes I think that military brass in their fancy uniforms intimidate congressmen. When the retired brass in our city wanted something, they'd come to our city council meetings in full regalia, sit in the front row, and (I could tell) intimidate at least the male members of the council.
The military tends to get what they want, most of the time, which is pretty sad. Eisenhower's warning about the military-industrial complex has been ignored.
