No, not you, Helen, although I learned a fact about insulin while at the vets. Banting, who discovered insulin, would only sell the rights to it if the drug companies promised to never make a profit from its sale. That's why it's so cheap. Isn't that cool? Did you know that?

If insulin alone could treat diabetes, it would be a relativly cheap disease but unfortunately that's not always the case.

Good luck with your cat!

I had a diabetic cat but unfortunately we could never get him stabilized. He came home from vet one day and died the next. I do have a friend with a diabetic cat that she has been treating with shots for several years.

Mine has a severe itching problem,he has tore his neck up so bad they had to do surgery and now he is on Cordizone pills. They said he is allergic to something but have no clue what.

I often wonder how much domestic life and diet has to do with cat diabetes. We have two classes of cats. The ones who stay in the house at night, and only venture out in the daytime to snooze in the sun or try unsuccessfully to hunt the odd bird, and the working cats who inhabit the barns and hay sheds. The workers are supplemented in the winter with inexpensive dry food as the mice and gophers are all spending the winter in some warmer place. They don't get any food all summer long and have to fend for themselves. The house cats have far more veterinary needs than the workers. They are fatter even though they eat expensive high end food.
The more we try to fiddle with the natural way of things, the more we muck it up.

Amazon sells Wellness and Feline Variety. An Amazon shipper heartypet.com was cheaper than Amazon for Wellness. Using the coupon code "goship", shipping via Fedex was much cheaper (like $7 for 40lbs). Cheapest is the v large cans, heartypet only has the 3.5 and 5.5Oz.
