If you're in awe of the vast outer reaches of space, I'd like to recommend a book. My sister bought this for me as a birthday gift and it's simply spectacular. The title is "Cosmos" and it's published by
Quercus. It's by Giles Sparrow. The photos boggle the mind. I haven't checked to see if it's available on eBay or Amazon but, if it is, I HIGHLY recommend it to the space-fans.

Happy Birthday, Blueyes!

I checked Amazon thinking that it was probably unafordable but it's less than 35.00! Every teacher should have a copy in the classroom.

Thanks, Helen...It's good to know it's available on Amazon and at an affordable price. Yes, I do think every kid should see this fantastic book. The photos are just spectacular and it just amazes me that all those fantastical galaxies and formations are out there...I'd LOVE to go visit them...but have to settle for an arm-chair tour. And thanks, too, for the birthday greeting!

I forgot to mention that all Amazon reviews for Cosmos were top rated 5 star reviews. I want to get a copy for my grandson.

Microsoft and Google are working with NASA to develop and improve public access to space imagery. Some is already available on Google, of course, but my old Microsoft computer won't download the Beta 5 version of Google Earth

Maybe I'll try the older version.

Your grandson should love it. It saddens me that the young people of today seem to be so uninterested in space exploration. I remember so well the excitement and sense of awe we all felt with the first lunar landing and other space flights. Even today with the Mars explorations, I still get excited. However, the kids today don't seem to share that excitement. I wonder where tomorrow's space explorers and scientists will come from? This book certainly provides a doorway through which they could start their journey.

For parents with young children there are lots of good space and science educational sites here.

Unfortunately, there appears to be a greater interest in space war or domination as reflected in games available to children. Even on an internet chat board such as this one, discord appears to increase the number of posts.

Thanks for recommending the good book. Hope you will post here more often, Blueyes!
