I wanted to post this last night, just for fun. I became so mesmerized, and covered with goosebumps reading Muriel's post re: "I see dead people", I totally forgot about mine. Muriel, I too am in Ohio, and have seen the books to which you refer. Thinking about picking them up. ((maybe)
Anyway, has anybody had the opportunity to sample the new Heinz Green Ketchup yet? I wonder which item, of their (Heinz) 57 varieties had to "bite the dust", to make room for this product? Think it will last?
Just curious.

Well, look who's here. Great to see you back James. Many, including myself, have missed you and your 'take' on things.

It has the exact same taste of normal, red ketchup. The green color, is supposed to be targeted more toward kids. I dunno, I have to close my eyes to eat it! Looks so weird on a French Fry! It does, however, taste the same.

My son (8 yrs old) is dying to try this stuff. I read him an article about it several months ago when they were beginning production and he asks me all the time if it's in the stores yet. Supposed to taste exactly the same. It will be a good study in human nature.

All foodies know that red (tomato) ketchup is only the tip of the ketchup iceberg, so to speak. I believe the original English-style ketchup was a kind of bottled mushroom sauce (yum), although there was also a version made with garlic, anchovies, nutmeg, vinegar, lemon juice, horseradish and port wine - what today we'd consider a zippy A-1 or HP sauce.
With that in mind, like busybiddyI was hoping that the "green ketchup" was some sort of salsa-y, green tomato/tomatillo concoction, or at least an offshoot of green tomato preserves, of which I'm fond. Apparently not.

I hope it hits stores here in time for Halloween! I do all kinds of gross food stuff for Halloween....last year it was eyeballs in guts (or, for the less adventurious....meatballs and spaghetti).

What I find most curious at this time, is Heinz is always known by their slogan "57 varieties". This is true. Heinz will only produce 57 varieties. I have visited the facility, and toured their extensive display at the Carnegie Science Center, in Pittsburgh. I would really like to know, which product had to be booted from production, to make room for this item? It might be product I truly enjoyed. Oh well.

My mom used to smack me for playing with my food. Now we're encouraging kids to get artistic with it. I'm not sure this is a good thing.

"Isn't a really obnoxious neon green?"
jtland,
best as I can describe....Cut your lush, dark green lawn, some morning before the dew has the chance to lift. Remove the "mulchings" from beneath the mower deck, run through a grinder, add water to the consistancy of ketchup.....there ya go!

Hi all, I am in central Ohio and this is on our shelf here. I haven't tried it though. Isn't it supposed to be a tomatilla, green chile sauce?
Ingredients read the same as original, red ketchup, with the following exceptions:
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), FD&C BLUE #1 - Aluminum Lake, COLOR, FD&C YELLOW #5
(sounds yummy! )
ubiedaman.....
Don't be so quick to (LOL) re: your comment getting this classified as a food, rather than a condiment. The closing statement on the bottle reads "Quote" 20% DV MORE VITAMIN C THAN OUR REGULAR KETCHUP WHICH HAS 0% DV VITAMIN C "End Quote"
Now, DV is obviously "Daily Value", but why list this, unless they did intend to possibly classify this as a green vegetable??? Hmmm?
I'm thinking of shooting a digital pic, and uploading for you to view. Whoda Thought

Sounds like the perfect condiment for those char-broiled burgers!

I checked out the picture ... my "eeewww" opinion still applies!
I won't eat popcorn-flavored Jelly Belly jellybeans either. Sure, the taste is good, but something with the texture of a jellybean and the flavor of popcorn just isn't "right".
Same with the green ketchup, with the color instead of the texture. It just ain't "right"! LOL!

Did 'ya ever go to one of those St. Patrick's Day parties at a bar where they make all the food green for the occasion? Green corned beef, green mashed potatoes, etc. And no, it's not mold, they put green food coloring in everything!
Just doesn't taste the same. Try putting green color in mashed potatoes and then see if they don't taste totally different! The color just turns you off.
If food doesn't look or smell like it's supposed to, I can't eat it.
