All these old favorites have withstood the test of time:
Hot Potato - toss a potato (or ball) from one person to the other until music stops, then whoever has it is out till someone wins
Musical Chairs - same idea (take one chair away every time so always one less than number of people left)
Drop Clothespins in the Milk or Juice Bottle - stand over it and try to drop them in, it's really hard even for short 8 year olds
Pin the Tail on the Donkey - we all know how that goes
Guess the Number of Pennies (jellybeans, etc.) In the Jar - closest guess wins

Hope the party goes well!

I used to give riding lessons to kids with disabilities. We had some great relay games we'd use.

Each of these require two teams:

Have a pile of funky clothes (Big men's shirt, tutu, funky hat, a sock, a glove, etc.) at one end of the room/yard whatever. The kids have to tag team getting dressed and undressed.
First kid runs down and puts all of the clothes on and runs back to the line. Gets undressed at the line. Second kid puts clothes on then runns down to the end of the room and takes the clothes off, runs back and tags third kid etc. That ones really funny.

Each kid has to run down to the end of the room/yard and sit on a balloon, in a chair, and pop it. This can be pretty funny too. You need to have the balloons ready and a chair for each team.

Have kids line up in two or more lines. Each kid gets a toothpick. Kids put the toothpick in their mouths. Put a lifesaver on the toothpick of the first kid in the line. He/she has to pass the lifesaver to the toothpick of the second kid who passes it to the third etc. You can also do this with something they have to put under their necks. (apple, orange, tennis ball) and they have to pass it down the line from under the chin to under the chin. No hands allowed in any of these.

I know none of these have anything to do with horseback riding, but often times the riding was just a means to teach other skills. Socialization, coordination etc.

Super suggestions above, although I might not use the toothpick one. I'd be afraid of injuries during all the excitement.

I'd add: Two team scavenger hunts, if you have other adults to help with supervision. Make most of the list of items to retrieve regular things that would be around most homes. I always put at least two items that most homes wouldn't have...makes the 'outing' last longer.
