MARK BURNETT WANTS YOU ...
FOR THE NEW USA NETWORK TELEVISION COMPETITION
COMBAT MISSIONS
THINK YOU'RE UP TO THE CHALLENGE???
New York - The producer of USA Network's Eco-Challenge Borneo and the runaway CBS hit Survivor, Mark Burnett, is looking for a few good teams. Combat Missions will be the most grueling physical and mental team event ever staged. It is a competition exclusively for four-person teams comprised of special forces veterans from the ranks of America's elite: The Navy SEALS, Green Berets, Marine Recon, Delta Force, Air Force P.J.'s, SWAT, FBI Anti-Terrorist Unit, CIA, DEA, Army Rangers, just to name a few. While living on a secret military base, these teams will compete against each other in a series of staged military missions that will test the limits of physical ability, tactical strength, and mental discipline.
If you serve, or have served, on any U.S. military special force or law enforcement tactical team, and can put together a four man or woman team of those who qualify, MARK BURNETT AND COMBAT MISSIONS WANT YOU! Run, don't walk, to www.usanetwork.com or www.combatmissions.com to submit your application. Applicants must be willing to undergo an extensive background check and agree to travel to the shoot location and devote 21 consecutive days for the contest, sometime between March 1, 2001 and May 15, 2001. We strongly suggest that your application is received by us by January 27, 2001. Applications received after this date may not be reviewed.
When our combat missions are over, only one team of true heroes will remain … still holding the flag … and a huge tank full of U.S. greenbacks. $400,000 in prize money will be divided among the top teams, and the first step to winning the competition is completing the application located at www.combatmissions.com.
USA Network, owned and operated by USA Cable, a division of USA Networks, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:USAI) Entertainment unit, is cable television's leading provider of original series and feature movies, sports events, off-net television shows and blockbuster theatrical films. USA Network is available in 78% of all U.S. homes, and is seen in more than 80 million U.S. homes. The USA Network Web site is located at www.usanetwork.com.

USA Network sucks. They cried poverty when it came to renewing La Femme Nikita (despite that it was the highest-rated show produced by the network and more popular than ever) but magically found money for this Survivor-reality-TV-rehash.

Actually---Eco-Challenge has been around for 6 years--last year over 70 International teams competed and this new Elite Challenge by Mike Burnett has the potential of being even more fabulous.
Survivor was a runaway hit with a million dollar purse and will now fund Mike Burnett's real love (Expedition Racing)----- the Eco-Challenge contestants went through hell and back with the winning team of 4 only getting $50,000---hopefully they can increase it with their new money---but the race is a very expensive thing to put together.
So even though you hate network--they just buy the show--they don't produce it.

The Eco-Challenges have been *wonderful*! Usually Discovery covers them and they are really something to see.
My dad and I are addicted to them. Each year we sit glued to the TV just amazed at what the people do (and try to figure out just WHY they do it).

Eco-challenge is fabulous. This year I kept up with the race as it was happening on the net---it took place in Borneo August 20-Sept 3rd----but I'm really looking forward to the broadcast of it on Discovery.
The tropical forest setting really took it's toll on the participants--leeches, trench foot---and all the participants had a notice in mid-September to report to their doctors for treatment some sort of bacterial infection
Survivor--though a great, fun, show--has nothing on the Eco-Challenge and this new one Combat Mission sounds like a hoot. Mike Burnett was a member of Special Services in the UK

ESPN this past weekend showed "The Ranger Chalenge"....54 HOURS of competition by 2 MAN teams...and we are talking MEN here...if you get a chance to see a re-run, check it out...Makes IronMan AND Eco-Challenge look like a walk in the park...and guess what..NO prize money (or if there is, it SURELY isn't in the millions), just PRIDE!
This event was rated as one of the 3 most grueling events out there...the "Triple IronMan" was first.

Franny: It is a once a year event and Discovery usually has 4-6 hours of shows from the event.
I *think* the show is usually in April, but I may be wrong.
You can get more info at Discovery.com, but BE CAREFUL the website gives 'spoilers'. Every year my dad and I have to tell the other people who watch (most of whom we got hooked in the first place) to keep their yaps shut, we want to wait for the show.

Well---I won't tell-----except that it was one of the best races yet with the top teams---and even the last place teams----and the unranked teams.
4 years ago they had the race up in the mountains here near Whistler BC---that was a tough one---half the teams didn't finish
