Today I had the power and water turned on at my new house. Friday I close.
As I waited for the city water guy to come turn the water on I wandered around my new house.
That ceiling has to go, oh my gosh this part of the floor is spongy needs repair, the carpet is horrid, the walls dont match, the windows are stuck and messy looking.
There's so much work to do here, it will take months to get it fixed up right.
I loved every problem, every crack, every old dropped ceiling tile that needs ripped out.
I love my house. I'm so happy my heart hurts and I can't get this lump out of my throat. I'm so happy to be free and healthy and mostly free from fear. I'm coming out of the trapped animal feeling. I don't always HAVE to sit with my back to a wall anymore.
I'm so blessed to be able to share this home and all its problems with my daughters.
I had to write this, I had to tell people what this feels like, I needed to share it.

I didnt show them inside the house yet. Just drove by once and let them see it. Wanted to make sure it wouldnt be taken away, that some last minute thing wouldnt happen and I'd hurt them.
I'm going to pick them up from school now and take them over to have a look at their home. Then to the carpet store so they can pick what they want for their rooms. Dont care if its purple and green striped carpet. They are going to have what they want this time.
I got a little extra on the home loan for carpet and paint
Thanks for letting me get all blubbery here.

BTDT, and I identify wholeheartedly with every blubbery feeling you have. I've bought 3 houses in the past 5 years, and I still get choked up at the closing! That HUD commercial with the couple lying in bed listening to the rain, where the woman says "Hear that? It's our rain" is right on the money.
Have a ball - and don't forget to take pictures NOW so you can keep track of your progress! (When you're sitting in a half-completed room, reviewing how far you've come can be very comforting.)

Oh Kitsch,I know the feeling. Next to having a baby it is one of the best feelings in your life to walk into that new home. Good luck, with your kids and this new dwelling.

Good for you. Sounds like your biggest problems were more than just having a roof over your head. Those kind are harder to solve and especially hurah for you and what you are doing for your duaghters that way. You probably could be moving into a tent and it would be an improvement if you were living in fear.

I just know Kel is going to hate this gushy post, but what the heck......
Kel, you have no idea how often I've thought of you. I am just amazed at how far you've come in the last year. Everytime I get 'bogged down' in the brown stuff I think, "Good Lord, look what Kel did". You impress the hell out of me.
