We lost one of our most respected fellow flea market ventors in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
He sold vintage clothes and was always willing to help those of us who weren't as knowledgeable as he was in this speciality.
A person stole a handbag off his table. He started to chase him, and he just went down. We aren't sure if he died from a heart attack or from falling and hitting his head on the pavement. How doesn't really matter. He is gone and will be missed by his friends and customers.

Please let us know if they catch the thief.
I am weary of this sort of thing.
The driver of the catering truck that serviced my last job was robbed several times. He finally put a gun in the money box
and the next time he was robbed the fellow was smart enough to take his roll then say you got money in the cab also. when he got in the door he turned around with the gun and shot the robber. He shot him in the upper arm and spun him around. The big Magnum hit the bone right on and shattered it almost severing the arm. The robber lost the arm and sued the catering truck fellow for his disability. The law is divided here. The state constitution says you can keep a weapon to protect yourself your property and the state, but the case law conflicts and says lethal force can not be used to protect property. Basically if he ever makes any money it goes to the robber now. He told us if you ever shoot anyone don't stop shooting until they are dead for sure and can't sue you.
I feel the state helped finish robbing him.

No, I don't think anyone even continued running after the thief after realizing the seriousness of his situation.
Another sad part to this is other vendors, his friends, weren't allowed to pack up his belongings. His beautiful things just sat there as a reminder until a relative could come and claim them. But, of course, these friends were the ones to stay and watch over his beloved treasures. To the relatives these were only old clothes.

Chococake - In looking for a silver lining - it's good to know that he was among friends when it happened... for his sake. I'm so sorry for your loss.

mybiddness - yes that's what I was thinking to. I only new him a couple of years, but other people knew him for years from the flea markets.
It just happened so fast, and all because of a thief.

The thief probably has no idea of the results of his actions. Another example of how our actions effect others - even in ways we never realize. He thinks he only took a "thing" but he took a life. How sad.
