The song IM YOURE PUPPET was popular? I was toodling around today in the car, and that song came on the oldies station. I immediately thought of THE SKATE HUT, a place I used to hang out, and skate during the day, then around 7pm, the band would start up and the skating rink would turn into a dance floor. IM YOURE PUPPET was my favorite song, because I was madly in love with Joe, who was distinguished and debonair, and much older than me at the ripe age of 18. He would come strutting in The skate Hut, too cool to skate, but his long black hair brushed off his brow, white tshirt tucked into his levis, and those big brown eyes and long lashes, and I would melt. I would hurry and hide my skates, and primp in the bathroom with the rest of the girls, breath coming in hitches because JOE was there and if I was really lucky, he would ask me to dance. And, during IM YOUR PUPPET playing one night, I got the thrill of my life...he asked me to get in the picture taking cubicle (remember those?). Bliss, Im tellin' ya...pure bliss! And yes, we danced too.

Sigh

So...where were YOU when that song was all the rave?

I'm Your Puppet
James and Bobby Purify
Written by Lindon Oldham and Dan Pennington

Peaked at # 6 in 1966

Pull the string and I'll wink at you, I'm your puppet
I'll do funny things if you want me to, I'm your puppet
Mm. I'm yours to have and to hold
Darling, you've got full control of your puppet

Pull them little strings and I'll kiss your lips, I'm your puppet
Snap your fingers and I'll turn you some flips, I'm your puppet
Mm, your every wish is my command
All you got to do is wiggle your little hand
I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet

I'm just a toy, just a funny boy
That makes you laugh when you're blue
I'll be wonderful, do just what I'm told
I'll do anything for you

I'm your puppet, I'm your puppet

Just pull them little strings and I'll sing you a song, I'm your puppet
Make me do right or make me do wrong, I'm your puppet.
Mm, treat me good and I'll do anything
I'm just a puppet and you hold my string, I'm your puppet

Your walking, talking, kissing, loving puppet
I'm hanging on a string,
I'll do anything, love you 'n' kiss ya

Barry(you da man)Barris...I still have that pic too...but its buried in a box somewhere. What an innocent I was then. And so carefree with no worries. Mama and Daddy paid the bills, put food on the table and all I had to worry about was keeping my skates oiled up and what to wear to attract Joe's attention. Back then, I wasnt in sarongs (bummer...if I was, betcha I...um...well, never mind)

Charlotte's Web - Statler Brothers

I remember laying in bed, my mom was downstairs playing that RECORD (a 45) on the "repeat" mode over and over and over. She had the front door open, it smelled like summer, I could hear the traffic...

I have that song downloaded on my computer and have burned it onto several CD's. I don't necessarily like the Statler Brothers it's just that song makes me remember when I wasn't the mom, I wasn't the one responsible for feeding and clothing and taking care of a household. Just felt safe being a very young kid.

(I'll be 30 years old in a few months) *gulp*

Libby...that was nice. Thanks for sharing it. Ahhh..the days when we were young and free, eh? But youre fixin' to hit your prime years, girl. Youre just starting...have fun remembering, and giving your kids memories themselves of you, on a summer day with traffic

Okay, maybe my age will show.... I loved this (I'm Your Puppet) song WHEN Donny Osmond did it.
I was 2 when the original was done. My husband is 15 years older than I and we know a lot of the same songs... he knows the originals and I know the remakes by the Osmonds!!!!
A song that brings memories back for me is "Kiss and Say Goodbye" by the Manhattans... long story... not able to share that one.

I don't remember you song maui, but I was only 7 back then. I do however have a couple of favourites of my own. The most favourite is Please Mr Postman by the Carpenters and Please Please Me by the Beatles. These songs have been around for such a long time and they have always stayed in my mind for some reason.

Please Mr Postman --1974
Stop
Oh yes, wait a minute Mr. Postman
Wait, wait a minute for me

Please Mr Postman, look and see
Oh yeah
If there's a letter in your bag for me
Please please Mr Postman
Why's it takin' such a long time
Oh yeah
For me to hear from that boy of mine

There must be some word today
From my boyfriend so far away
Please Mr Postman, look and see
If there's a letter, a letter for me

I've been standin' here waitin' Mr
so patiently
For just a card, or just a letter
Saying he's returnin' home to me

Mr Postman, look and see
If ther's a letter in your bag for me
Please, Please Mr. Postman
Why's it takin' such a long time
Oh yeah
For me to hear from that boy of mine

So many days you passed me by
See the tears standin' in my eyes
You didn't stopto make me feel better
By leavin' me a card or a letter

Mr. Postman, look and see
Oh yeah
If there's a letter in your bag for me
Please, please Mr. Postman
Why's it takin' such a long time

Why don't you check it out and see one more time for me, you gotta
Wait a minute
Wait a minute
Wait a minute
Wait a minute Mr Postman look and see

C'mopn deliver the letter, the sooner the better.

Please Please Me. -- 1963???

Last night I said these words to my girl
I know you'll never even try girl

Come on, come on
come on, come on
come on, come on
Please please me
Oh yeah, like I please you

You don't need me to show the way love
Why do I always have to say love

come on, come on
come on, come on
Come on, come on
Please please me
Oh yeah, like I please you

I don't want to sound complaining
but you know there's always rain
In my heart...In my heart
I do all the pleasing with you
It's so hard to reason with you
Oh yeah, why do you make me blue

Last night I said these words to my girl
I know you'll never even try girl

Come on, come on
come on, come on
come on, come on
Please please me
Oh yeah, like I please you
Oh yeah, like I please you

libby I didn't feel old when I turned 30. I felt old when my daughter turned 30.

In 1966 I was 18.

I can't remember that one but I do remember getting a transistor radio (which is sadly is collectable now) and listening to "Hey Jude" must have been in third or fourth grade.

I have a 17 yo and she is always telling me how cool a song is; then I hear it and think words sound familiar but that sure isn't the way I remember it.

I have felt old ever since my daughter started school and came home to ask me if they had pencils when I went to school! (Yes they did!)

Whats funny is when a song comes on the tube, or over the radio, and us old fogeys sing along and know the words and the teens in the room or car look at us like we are GODS because we KNOW THE WORDS!!! Heh, most songs nowadays are the ones from back then...with new beats, i.e. rap, commercials, etc.

In 1966 when I'm Your Puppet was a hit, I was 13. I loved that song. The songs from 1967-1971 are the most special to me. I don't know why. I was in jr. high and high school and when I hear them (which is very rarely), they just touch my heart.
