I've just been informed by Amazon to ship the OOP books they order from me to their Lexington, KY warehouse instead of to their Seattle warehouse.

Wonder what that means in terms of Amazon remaining in Washington???

I've lived in Lexington for 11 years and I didn't know Amazon was here. I really must get out more!

1850 Mercer Ave in Seattle, or in Lexington? There's an 1850 Mercer Ave in Seattle on Capitol Hill.

Amazon recently moved their Seattle-based customer service operations to (I think) Nebraska because it's a cheaper labor market.

copy of letter from Amazon

"We are no longer receiving any out-of-print books in Seattle. We are now using our Lexington, Kentucky, distribution center to process all out-of-print book orders. You must ship Amazon.com out-of-print book orders to the following address:

Amazon.com PO#_____________
1850 Mercer Drive
Lexington, KY 40511

They also used this letter to push Marketplace---me thinks they might be dropping their OOP in the future and leave those sales to Marketplace and Zshop

"We are pleased to let you know that you can list your out-of-print books right in Amazon's bookstore via our new program/service called marketplace. We encourage you to take advantage of listing through Amazon Marketplace--booksellers have been amazed at the results. Your used or collectible copy of a specific book will be
prominently featured on the same page where customers go to purchase a new or out-of-print copy in our Books store. This valuable placement ensures that your listing will get a tremendous amount of exposure, and more importantly, be made available to those customers who are interested in that specific title."

Hmm, very interesting.

Perhaps all the big comanies will leave Seattle and we'll be left with depressed real estate values and lighter traffic.

Amazon has had 4-6 different warehouses for a year or so but their main warehouse in, I believe, Tacoma is still there and does not appear to be leaving.

However, no one knows how long Amazon will even remain a viable enterprise and Bezo's is currently being investigated - so placing bets on Amazon's stability in Seattle would not be a wise move.

RB,
I only wish more would leave so houses prices would go way down.

There are several States with much lower cost of living rates than Seattle in addition to the Governor's ignoring the traffic situation does make Companies take a second look at relocating.
