Thanks, ken....In spite of the nasty potential ramifications, I could not help but chuckle when I heard this on NPR: another country we have just alienated!.....Keep going, bushyboy, only a few nations left, and America will stand all alone, with not an ally left...Talk about alienation!

I'm just a little bit suspicious abou tthis whole thing. I mean, nothing in foreign affairs is ever what it appears like in the media. Did the Chinese fighter jet collide into the spy plane? I think that is most likely. In most instances, the spy plane is flown over internation waters and the coutry being spied upon usually provides a fighter "escort" to ensure that the spy plane doesn't leave international waters and into the mainland for a quick look. These fioghter piolets are very trained not to crash into each other: it does happen, but not on this sort of a mission. SO what happened?

Either the spy plane was ordered into the fighter (very highly unlikely), or the Chinese fighter was ordered to damage the spy plane enough to force a landing is much more likely. Why would the Chinese do this if it was ordered instead of an accident?

Testing. Always testing. With Bush, who has an IQ equivelent of Forrest Gump, but not his "Moral Compass", a new president's resolve is always tested. Heack, we do tests of other new leaders ourselves. I think that China wants to see what this new adminisraion's policy really is towards them. After all, diplomacy never tells the real story; and China already sent out feelers a couple of weeks ago. The only real way to get an idea of how things stand is a clever incident of this type. mind you, everyone will be watching and guaging how the Bush Administration handles this.

Shosh,

I think it has the potential to be made into the cake he wants for his party, and have been wondering whether anyone would notice, what with all the more momentous and life threatening things going on in this board.

But what are you doing here?
Seems that you've got important work to do in fending away the yaps of inconsequential little terriers, ......Viola!

LoL!

For what it's worth..... I think it is perhaps a first for U.S. military aviation in which an unarmed eletronic observation plane took out a jet fighter and lived to tell about it.

A medal is in order for the crew ! Let's hope the crew gets home soon !

A thought just struck me like lightening: WHAT IF THE @^%$# hole decides to get pizzed off with France too? Will dumbo place all of us French-born in a "camp", as was done to the Japanese People....for security reasons, OF COURSE!...

ken....If that happens, promise me you will come over AND take my computer home with you for safe-keeping, and promise me that you will continue posting links here, so that I can hold on to my sanity...

The French are rude and annoying so I don't think anyone would protest. It will be tragic if we lose our "ally" China. All that would be left is for our sister country Iran to abandon us and we'd be goners for sure!

It just shows the Chinese you dont mess with 1959 lockheed aircraft. Even though they may be unarmed, it's a little known fact they have pneumatic rams that extend out from the rear or wingtips to dispense with pesky superpower tailgaters in a spooky diplomatic way.

Another theory is the Orion pilots may have tired of the same old flying upside down alongside the the orion, giving derogatory "american gestures" in an attempt to display air superiority over the antiquated P-3, and took a clue from last weeks nascar race when Tony Stewart spun Jeff Gordon in the pits.

Still, there is SOME truth to that very slanted statement ....That is why I came to this great country; which is turning out to be not so great after all....at least, not lately...with so many red-necks.

More is at stake here than just loosing China as an "ally".

Bush is claiming that China has aimed it's missile force toward Taiwan. Taiwan wants the US to provide 4 guided missile destroyers equipped with a long distance radar system. Our President has this
under consideration.

Beiging has given the Island of Taiwan a choice...eventual unification or war.

So..you can probably see the ramifications of this scenario. It's serious.

I've never been to France, although I'm aware they have a "reputation". I was once chased out of a Martinique hotel room at broom point by a maid shouting profanities in French. Does that count?

HJW Hi there.
Of course, this is dangerous! China is not an ally; however, ALIENATING ourselves from more and more countries will be devastating.
But this tiny would-be Napoleon has not figured it out yet....As long as he has red-necks approval, he will continue on, madly slashing at everything with his machete....

By now, I have lost count of how many countries hes has pizzed off in such a short time.

Well, time to go see what "shrub" has done to the stock market today....

Two minuters later:

Well did not have to wait long: down another 99.80, and NASDAQ, another 59.21...Why am I surprised????

eyeguy6...MY only bad experience with France was...being born there...Yet, I would NEVER wish them any harm. We, Europeans, and particularly Jews, have a sour taste in our mouth when it comes to 'camps' and "no one protesting"...

Sorry if I was touchy.

Shosh,

If you're ever placed in a "camp", I'll come and break you out with a well-placed ladder.

If that doesn't work, I'll just have to dazzle your captors with my "charm".

Yea, charm....that ought to do it.

My very Dear Femme Fatale I KNEW I could count on you...

You know, when I lived in England, it was during the Algerian crisis (reclaiming their independence from France)...The English Government had us pack a minimum "emergency kit", and we were on a stand-by, ready to be shipped back to France is war broke out.
From the US, the cost would be prohebitive...

But I will look out the window of my ivory tower, and impatiently await the arrival of your white poney express... Have an espresso ready for me, OK? A little Brie also...and a Quiche...Throw in a couple Eclairs au Chocolat....Oh! and a bottle of good wine...I'll let you select...

If it comes it won't be Bush's fault:

Last month Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen told officials in Washington that such arms sales could provoke a war in the cross-straits region.
http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/asiapcf/east/04/01/china.us.times/

Qian has warned that the U.S. arms sales to Taiwan would be a "very serious setback" for Sino-American relations while refusing to rule out a pre-emptive attack on the island, which Beijing regards as a renegade province.
http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/asiapcf/east/03/23/taiwan.arms.sales/index.html

Jiang has said that without U.S. interference "we would have been able to resolve the question and liberate Taiwan at any time."
