For those of you who do not believe ....

The other night my daughter went to bed, very much worried about her cousin and the conversations she is having with her "friend", and about her grandfathers, both of whom are very ill. She was asking her beloved Gram, who has been gone just over a year now, to please help them.

A faint light appeared in the room and began to glow brighter. In the middle of this light was someone who has loved her since the day she was born, her beloved Gram. She was dressed in that same shabby housedress she always wore, patches and all. Now, though, she also had the most beautiful wings and a glowing halo. She also appeared younger and had beautiful brown hair. The light continued to grow brighter until it was as if there were five lights on in her room.

If ever I wondered, I now know. Love definately transcends this lifetime and into the next. I know my children have a protector, someone who loves them dearly. A guardian angel who knows them well, one who diapered their little bottoms, dried their tears, and spent hours talking to them and having her hair done by little beauticians.

And you know what? Gram, we love you, too.

This is quite an amazing story MrsSanta! Did you see the light too (no pun intended!) or was this something your daughter saw?

Although I certainly wish I had been fortunate enough to see her, Gram's visit was to my daughter only. She has come to her twice before, once to kiss her and tell she loved her (just after we found out about her grandfathers), and once to warn her when she was in danger. On the first "visit" she felt her kiss and heard her. On the second, she was in the tub relaxing and fell asleep. She had begun to slip down when she heard Gram say "Hayley, sit up". I feel in that instance she saved her life. I guess she was so used to Gram that it was just instinct to obey her. The third visit was the one above, where she actually saw her.

I think Gram knows the impact the illnesses are having on my daughter and wanted to let her know she was looking after her. Her love for her great-grandchildren, especially this one, who she had around every day for seven years before any others were born, was incredible. There are other great-grandchildren who are older but they live in another state - my daughter was there each day as I worked.

I feel incredible fortunate to know she is around. If God himself were to pick an angel to watch over my girls, he couldn't have picked a more perfect one.

For those who choose to believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, no explanation is enough. I believe.

MrsSanta, I've always thought that kids are closer to God or something.

I saw a documentary (I think I've seen every documentary made!) about kids with cancer and how brave they were. None were afraid to die because they all believed God (or a higher power) was looking after them.

Maybe we should all listen to kids more often!

I think you and your daughter have been blessed. Sometimes you think you can feel something or someone present, even when you know that there is no one else in the room, that is when I believe the spirit of a loved one is close to us.

I do think we all have a guardian angel looking out for us, and I remember once seeing (for I am certain that I did see this), my sister standing in the doorway of my daughter's room. My daughter had been ill and the doctor had only given me until the next day to get her temp down, I tried everything and was really upset because I did not want her to have to go into hospital again as she never settled and it was extra hard because I had two other small children. Anyway after this visit she was up and about the very next day as good as gold, even the doctor was surprised.

I really do believe that my sister, who passed away some years before, was looking after her and I think that she continues to look after her.

I hope your daughter continues to draw comfort from seeing her Gram, and knowing that her beloved Gram will always be around to comfort and support her.

Ten years ago my grandmother passed away while I was away at college. She died in her sleep unexpectedly and I never got a chance to tell her goodbye. This was a terrible sadness for me and I grieved for a long time because we were very close. Some six months after she died I went to sleep and had a dream more vivid than any I have ever had. In the dream, my telephone rang and I picked it up. There was a crackling on the telephone line and a voice saying my name, it was my grandmother, sounding just like herself, and I could hardly believe it. She told me she was watching me and seeing my anguish, and she wanted me to know I didn't have to grieve for her anymore and that she always knew how much I loved her. She said not saying goodbye meant nothing compared to the 20 years we had been close. I begged her to talk to me longer, but she said I should remember she loved me always and faded away. I never had a dream so real as that before or since. I still feel it was something more than just a dream.

A few years ago when I saw the movie Six Sense and the little boy tells his mother what his deceased grandmother says to him when she visits, I burst into tears because it seemed so similar. Strange how art imitates life.

I'm glad your daughter has the comfort of these 'visits'. My dream comforted me greatly and I always wish it would be repeated again, but in 10 years it was just that once.

It is wonderful to share stories such as this. Too often we spend so much time on the bad that we forget the good. For whatever reason Gram decided to visit Hayley, I can tell you it will provide comfort to her, as the visits of your loved ones did you. When we must face the inevitable with her grandfathers at least she will know that we go to a better place and they will be with her always. I will draw on her visit to help both girls understand.

Brighid, I am sure she will be there when you need her.

Nettak, of course it was your sister. The power of love is stronger than any medicine. Miracles do happen. I have witnessed one that is documentable, and was told of another just today.

When Gram died I was looking at the flowers by her coffin, thinking that it would be nice to have a bird or something like the one I had from my Grandmother's funeral. The funeral director asked if I would like to take an arrangement home. I told him no, I wasn't really into flowers. He reached into the middle of one and said, "Well, then, how about this?" and handed me a beautiful white dove.

I brushed away a tear and said, "Thanks, Gram." Then I smiled. She always knew just what I needed somehow.

Geez, I miss that little lady ...

Angels with wings are a human invention.

Nowhere in all Scripture is there any mention of angels having wings. In fact, the portrayal of angels with wings didn't become popular until the Middle Ages. The earliest winged angels in Christendom appeared in art during the rule of Constantine, first Christian emperor of Rome. Those early representations of winged angels bore a striking resemblance to Nike, Greek goddess of victory, who experts believe provided a model for Christian artists.

Don't know, Dan. Still some question about whether they still have tails. Those long, flowing robes don't help matters ...

Not really, Spaz. In the vision of Ezekiel (first chapter) he describes angels with wings. Although his description doesn't quite include white robes, halos and harps exactly.

James,

I suppose you are right, however it should be noted that Ezekiel describes either seraphim or cherubim (I forget the distinction). I was thinking of them as apart from stereotypical traditional messenger angels, as the ones Ezekiel describes also have four faces -- that of a man, a lion, an ox and an eagle -- four wings, etc.

I have an Angel story myself. This happened a couple of weeks ago to our 19 year old son.

He was driving (alone) to work when hubby and I were out of town. He noticed the gas gauge was below "E" in an older van that just eats gas. He said outloud "Ok God, please give me enough gas to make it to the BP Station on the corner."

He made it to the station, and there was a man standing at the pumps. The man said to him, "Driving in on "E" huh?"

My son said "Yea!", and turned to use his debit card to start the pump. While he was doing that, the man said "Well "Mark" (the man used my son's name), if you hadn't asked for more, you wouldn't have made it."

My son was turning to ask the man how he knew his name, and there was no one there. No cars, no one had pulled in or out, nothing.

This man refered to what my son had said in a car by himself, and he called him by name. Then he was gone. Very cool...

OK, Spaz ~ I'll bite ....

Maybe Gram just knew that if she appeared to Hayley with wings and a halo she would understand that she was in heaven and watching over her.

I believe in miracles. I have witnessed one. I believe in angels. Hayley has seen one. I don't need any explanation - I have experienced the phenomenon.

May I suggest reading a copy of Angels Magazine

Meya ~ incredible!

*For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, no expanation is enough.

As a firm believer in "spirits" for lack of a better word, I am so glad you shared this! Kids really are closer, or more open or something.

My husband doesn't believe in anything that is not scientifically proven and yet there are things that have happened to us that have left him questioning. In a previous thread I mentioned that our son died. In the last year or so we have had "visits" from "lights" (again it is hard to put this into words so please bear with me here). This has happened several times. We will see flashes of light and just feel like someone is right there. His scientific mind has searched for explaination where I don't need one. It is just Dylan saying hello.

Does he have wings? I don't know and honestly I don't care. I just believe that love doesn't end with death too.

So thanks MrsSanta for a great topic and a chance to tell you all about what I have seen too. :0)

MrsSanta: I'm having a brain fart here so help me out. Were you the one who posted that your daughter had a friend who spent the night one time and the friend was afraid because she was being harrassed by poltergeists at her home and they followed her to your house? I thought that was you, but then again, I'm a year older now and I can't remember anything. I guess I was just wondering if this was the same daughter, and whatever happened with that situation.

muriel,

Age hasn't affected your memory. 'Twas indeed MrsSanta who reported that her niece was experiencing poltergeist activity.

Well, you can count me in as a believer. I KNOW that my father & now my uncle are with us, and help to guide us as we continue our journey throught life without them.

Ashlandtrader, my father often uses light to communicate with us. When I was younger, the light that hung over the piano (his piano) would flicker whenever I hit an incorrect note...My sister (different house, different piano) experienced the same thing several times. It was a comfort to know he was still around!

Mrs.Santa your daughter is lucky not only to have been comforted by her Gram, but also to have a mom that believes with her

Yes, 'twas I - only I changed their names to protect my niece.

Unfortunately nothing much has been done about my niece - her father still does not believe it is happening. As I mentioned in the original post, one of things Hayley was asking Gram to do was to watch over her cousin.

I do have a friend who wants to go to my niece's house to speak with Lucy. The problem is, I am still very afraid. Fear is a tough thing to overcome - the part that scares me most is her name. Short for someone evil, perhaps? Maybe she is really a he?

Another friend of mine has started a prayer vigil for my niece. She feels the spirit is evil.

Someone has pointed me to shadowlands.net I passed the information on to her father. This child is my niece, not my daughter, so what I can do is extremely limited.

I do not, however, want to turn this thread into something it was not intended to be. My intent here is to merely share something wonderful, something inspirational.

Ashlandtrader, you will see a small colorful ball of light. Wings or not, you will know in your heart who it is ~ and tell Dylan I said hello
